Photo by: WES TOMLINSON Campus Commencement Set for May 1 By James Foltz Many students here at Penn State Delco have been filling out a schedule for next semester’s classes. Whether they are going up to the Park or staying here, they still had to do this. However, 33 students didn’t have to. On May 11, 33 undergraduate students will strip off that title and will be known as graduates. They will fling their caps from their heads and celebrate the completion of a Baccalaureate or an Associate program. The eight students who are graduating with an Associate Degree are being provided with “concentrated instructional programs to prepare graduates for specialized assignments in business and industry, and give students a basic two-ear education.” These graduates are considered “specialists in applied rather than theoretical knowledge of their particular fields." "They understand the basic scientific and humanistic principles which are the tools of the college graduate, and are acquainted with the tools and materials of the skilled worker. They many elect to take their places immediately in the professional world or may choose to continue studies toward a bachelor’s degree.” Many of the twenty-five graduates of a Baccalaureate program have not completed them at Penn State Delco. However, they chose to graduate here, rather than at University Park. Those who have stayed at Penn State Delco for the duration of their academic careers have done so through the College of the SEPTA Strikes Fails To Make Impact On Delco Students By Bob Lewis Strike! What strike? Oh yeah, that strike. Sound familiar? PSU Delco knows all about it. Students, faculty and staff all felt the impact of the recent SEPTA work stoppage. The disruption had the potential to ictally disrupt campus life and classroom schedules. To avoid this happening Student Life took on the challenge of circumventing this problem. Along with volunteers and staff as well as faculty a very efficient transportation network was established. In a discussion with one of the students that took advantage of this emergency transport system was Gedion Teklegiorgis, second year history major. “During the strike," he said, "many people said that they couldn’t make it to school, but I totally disagree. So many people were willing to help. The volunteer faculty, staff and students made it very simple. I almost forgot that there was a strike. * § Nothing could have stopped you from coming to school." Gedion is a recent recipient of the Sylvia Schaffer Award and feels strongly about school and his love of learning is evident. Inside Sports Update Hollywood Update Battle of the Bands Liberal Arts.
