May 28, 1975 Hazel Crankshaw, poet- tess, historian, and religious leader from Maytown, has come up with an idea that may spread across the country. At this time of the Bicentennial, Mrs. Crank- shaw is grateful ‘‘ for the privilege of living in our great nation;’’ she also feels some ‘‘concern for the future of our country.’’ The outcome of her mingled gratitude and con- cern is a ‘‘Bicentennial Prayer Crusade.” ‘“Vietnam,’’ she says, ‘has shown how easily our country can be torn apart and the abuse of power as demonstrated by the Watergate affair has shown how quickly and terribly our nation can flounder, even fall. Both events have pointed out the the need of prayer for rulers in high and not so high places.”’ A slogan, ‘‘Circle our country with PRAYER,’ has been set in an emblem surrounding the United States.
