Donegal headed the churches as compiled by John W. W. Loose, president of the Lancaster County Historical Society. Some Mennonite groups gathered informally in var- ious homes for worship as early as 1709. Several local Lutheran and Reformed congregations were organ- ized in 1730 and are celebrating 120th anniver- saries this year. §§§ Mr. and Mrs. John E. Miller, High Street, Mount Joy, celebrated their SOth wedding anniversary recent- ly. They were honored at a celebration given by their children: Mr. and Mrs. Joe Yurkovic, Mr. and Mrs. John R. Miller, and Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Miller. §§§ Ray Burris, Maytown, found an 1810 2 cent piece while digging in his garden last week. Although covered with dirt the piece proved to | have a high copper content when cleaned. A 1975 coin book stated that there were 215,000 coins minted in that year. A coin in good condition was worth $15, very good condition, $24, fine condition, $35, very fine condition, $55, and un- circulated, $400. §§§ Maureen Marino, Mount Joy, a senior marketing major at York College of Pennsylvania, was honored at the college’s annual Recognition Dinner last Thursday. Maureen re- ceived the Sales Marketing Executives York Chapter award presented to an outstanding marketing senior. §§§ Several local students will be among the nearly 200 seniors graduating from Elizabethtown College this Saturday, May 10. Receiving their bachelor of science in business administration will be Kirk L. Wolgemuth, Thomas S. Snyder, Rodolfo S. Reyes and Kenneth W. Good, all of Mount Joy. Bernard R. Wise of . receive a science in Marietta will bachelor of psychology. list of ten Doug Kline D. Kline & T. Merchant Tanya Merchant Boy & Girl of Month Donegal High’s Boy of the Month is Douglas E. Kline, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kline, 567 N. Angle Street, Mount Joy. Douglas has played in the DHS band for four years, and was named to the state band in his senior year. He has played basketball and soccer (as a freshman) and won the President’s Physi- cal Fitness Award (as a senior). He was a member of the Junior Class Executive Committee, and has won several science fair prizes, including a first place in environmental science at the DHS fair, and 2d place in the Lancaster County Sci- ence Fair. He is listed in Who's Who Among American High School Students, is a National Honor Society Member, is Yearbook Bus- iness Manager, and a member of the backstage crew of the Senior Class Play. He is president of the Florin Church of the Breth- ren Youth, and a member of the church softball and “asketball teams. He works part-time at Weis Markets, and plans to continue working there after graduation. Tanya Merchant, daugh- ter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Merchant, R.D. 1, Box S50 Harold Ave., Mount Joy, has been named Girl of the Month at Donegal High. Tanya has been captain of both the field hockey team (on which she was also the most valuable player) and the championship girls’ basketball squad. She has also gone out for track, four years in a row, and is (haturally) a member of the Varsity Club. She is a member of the 1980 yearbook committee, and a senior class play usher. She is a member of Saint Mark’s United Methodist- Church, is listed in Who's Who, and has worked for the Mount Joy Boro Water Authority. Her only fault is a bad habit of getting injured late in the season. She plans to attend college, but hasn’t picked one, yet.
