with his associates, and these traits, added to a zealous and conscientious application to daily duties, made him a man who was held in the highest esteem by the students who were directly in touch with him. Besides his wife and two children, Prof. Butz is survived by several brothers and sisters. His parents are both dead. The funeral services were conducted by the Masonic Or- der of which he was a member, and interment was in Pine Hall cemetery Monday afternoon. New Plans for Athletics. Important matters concerning the future of athletics at State were dis cussed at a recent meeting held to consider the recommendations of a committee representing the Alumni Association of Managers and Cap tains. The committee consisting of A. C. Reed, '92, Ray Smith, 'O5, P. V. Stevenson, 'O3, 3., E. Quigley, '94 and G. R. Meek, '9O, were ready with a number of suggestions and outlined the following plans. In charge of athletic matters there should be a graduate manager. Under him would be the student managers of football, baseball, and general athletics, each with three assistant managers. In addition, the plan includes an Advisory com mittee. The Advisory committee is to consist of six men—the presi dent of the Association, the treas urer, the graduate manager, the physical director, and the captain and the manager of the department then in season. The Alumni com mittee is to consist of five men elected from the alumni association. The functions of each part of the plan are as follows: The Alumni committee elects the graduate manager, and acts as a co 2rt of last resort in case of any dispute arising under the workings of the Association.
