At that time, State had not yet enjoyed the privilege of emPloy ing the services of an experienced coach and Fennell's effectivc work on the field rapidly became evident. Not only was his ability as a foot ball coach admired by all those who daily came in contact with him, but his noble character and strong personality also attracted every State man. His influence became powerful throughout the entire college community and his words, as delivered in frequent speeches to the student body, conveyed whole souled meanings. Many a game has been won by the spirit which "Tommy's" words aroused. During the seasons of 1905.6, "Tommy" devoted as much time as his legal practice allowed to the coaching of State's teams. At the opening of the 1907 season, he was back again and soon had the squad hard at work. Unfortunately, a 3 in previous years, he could only be with us as long as his valuable time afforded, but nevertheless, we have had a successful team this year un der his coaching and to him every State man owes the highest appre ciation.
