Arbitration Committee ot the Board of Trade For March and April. WM. McCRKERY, V. P. B. CAMPBELL, ISAIAII DICKEY, B. PBESTOV, M. B. McKLBOY, WM. MEANS. Yesterday was ono of great excitement in our city, for although no startling news was received from the seat of war, that of the throe clays preceding had the effect of exciting n strong feeling ol patriotism in the breasts of thousands, which was manifested in military ardor. Party ties were sundorod, and Repub licans, Democrats, and “Conservatives,” all agreed that tho Government must bo sustain ed with men and money. As we have already slated, tho newly organ ize Ziouavocompany held a meeting on Friday evening, tendering their services to tho Gov ernor. Thirty-eight members were presmt, all of whom signified their willingness t>- otl'er and tho remaining eighteen subsequently gave their assent. At least fifty members are ready to take up arms, and tbe company is now recruiting to tbe full complement. Cant R. B. Roberta, a leading Democrat, when wait ed upon by a committee, stated that he would cheerfully lead them to the place of action if their services are accepted. Col. T. A. Rowley, of the Washington In* fan try, also tendered tbe services of his com pany, and having seen service in Mexico him self, will soon have his men ready. Tbe ar mory was open yesterday for recruiting, aud to-day tbe company will turn out with a mar tial band, inviting such as desire lojuin. The Duqdesno Grays tendered their in January last, and the document is now on file in the Adjutant General's office. In CapL. David Campbell, a thorough Democrat, they have a most gallant commander, in whose hancL the laurels won by the Grays in Mexico will be kept ever green. Tbe company has advertised for recruits, young uumarried men being preferred. About forty members, have, we understand, express* J their readiness to march. /**•:*>' A public meeting of the citizens of Law rence.villo and Hatfield has bedn c&llod to a* eemblo at Robinson’s Hal!, in the former bor ougb, this evening, to organize a volunteer company to sustain the government. Tbo other military companies, including the Jackson Independent Blues, Negley Ziuaves, Pennsylvania Zouaves, Allegheny Rifles, and Pennsylvania Dragoon?, are about to recruit The Blues offorod their services long since, and the rest are ready to turn out when needed. The “Oily Guards” also meet this evening, when busiooes of importance will be consider ed. The services of Ibis new company will probably be tendered. Our volunteers will need but few arms, as they are nearly supplied, but overcoats, blank ets, and camp equipage will be needed. Gon. J. S. Negley, now in Harrisburg, telegraphs that he will see them provided as early as possible. Capt. Rowley, of the Washington Infantry, left for Harrisburg yesterday afternoon, on business connected with the volunteer service. He took letters to Guv. Curtin from CapU. Campbell and Roberts. Oapts. Campbell, of tho Greys, Roberts, of the Zouaves, and Rowley of the lofantry, are acting in concert, with a view to forming their companies, if accepted, into a batallion. Capt. Campbell has telegraphed to Governor Curtin, desiring him to use his influence with General Cameron, Secretary of War, and obtain, if pos aible bis permission for our voluntoer soldiery to use the arsenal grounds at Lawrencevillo as a rendezvous, where the raw recruits can have room and facilities for rapidly perfecting them selves in Held drill, which is necessary before they are fit for service. The arsenal grounds afford ample scope for this purpose, while the men employed there in manufacturing equip ments, <fcc,, would not be interfered with. Dast evening the military spirit seemed to have increased in intensity tenfold. Bands of martial music paraded the streets and the ar mories were crowded with young men, eager to enlist under their country’s banner. Over fifty new names were added to the onrolmont list of tho new Zouave company, thirty five to the Greys, thiity*two to the Washington In fantry. We also learned that the Pennsylva nia Zouave company has been increased to one hundred and six and that Col- Trovillo’s company, noticed above, has been filled up. The Pittsburgh Zouaves had so many appli cants that they wero obliged to-close the doors of the ante room and admit a few at a time. • They now number one hundred and twenty. A despatch was receivod during the evens ing, signed by Gov. Curtin, ordering all the military companies of Western Pennsylvania who have tendered their services and also those who desire to do so, to rendezvous at Pittsburgh, without any further delay than is neceseary in reaching this point, and report themselves for the present to Brigadier Gene* ral Negley. ■ •*£,***' ... -J » ;. •*■ . •.. *.♦ • 1 » * > I‘*» •- . A meeting of tbe Legion is called for this even ing. Col. Wm. Making war nowadays i* an exi*uiMve oj>eration, and *ome must be free to work in order to sup ply the material for those who fight. The war upon which we have just entered will be, in all probability, chiefly a naval combat, and in that point of view the North has the advantage in men, munitions and ships.— The navy of the United States, such as it is, belongs to the North. The army and ma rine corps are. we presume, with exceptions, loyal to the Federal Government. Tho Slates will proceed mmiedmioly to arm and equip a n ery large volunteer force, no less than one hundred thousand men being needed for the defence of Washington. In the South there U nainok of fighting material. The army of tho OoirJVdenete*- *Blai«s ia. as well officered, but not as well equipped, as that of the Federal Government. The South has no navy worth mentioning, and must provide for one. Likewise, an army must be equipped for actual duty in the field —not guard mounting and lounging in garrison. The cost of all this will be enormous. To maintain our army and navy in timeof peace reqoires a yearly expenditure of nearly iwentv-fivo millions of dollars, lo maintain iwo war filets and two war armies will cost .is much as two hundred million dollars.— As there is no pois«m without its antidote, so this very war, which is so deplorable and so entirely absurd and unnecessary, will en rich thousands 01. mechanics and traders who build and fit out ship*, or furnish army and navy supplier. All branches o( trade which bear directly upon the speciality above referred to, will be immensely stimu lated. ami, as a natural consequence, busi ne-w of all kinds will be brisk.—Ah 1. Her “i ,\„>nbii/. Washington, April M —Senator Douglas called on tho President to-night, and tuey bad an interesting conversation on tho present con dition of tho country. A firm policy and prompt ac tion was necessary. Mr. Lincoln was very much gratified with the interview. IN ll Krkn u knc k, April 1'- —ThoNow Mexi can mail, with dates v. the Ist inst., has ar* rived.
