Closing prices on slaughter steers were 25-50 cents lower with mixed 3-4 often showing the most decline. Heifers were 25-75 cents lower instances 1.00 off in dull late trade. Cows were mostly 50 cents lower and bulls 1.00 lower. Four day receipts 18,500 as compared 20,900 previous week and 16,00 a year ago. Fed cattle prices were forced downward for the second successive week in reflection of lowered carcass prices. Most buyers were selective for cutability as the price differential between yield grade 3 and 4 beef carcasses widened to as much as 6.00 per cwt. Most buying interests were fairly aggressive for numbers the fore part of week, but demand narrowed at mid week and one major heifer buyer withdrew from active participation. The overall finish continued attractive with a fairly liberal per centage choice steers and heifers and a moderate volume mixed choice and prime, steers made up ap proximately 49 and heifers 35. Cows comprised 10 and feeder cattle less than 5. Leesport May 11,1977 CATTLE 365. Supply in cluded 128 head feeder cattle.
