Howard Stern’s recently-released screen adaptation of his best selling book Private Parts is inspiring. This rags to riches story traces the life of America’s number one radio personality, from growing up in Long Island to his rise to the top at WNBC-NY. It’s not surprising that the film and its accompanying soundtrack went straight to the top, also. The film features Howard, Robin, and Fred, all playing themselves. This “thinktank” created the best morning show on radio. Their acting truly brings the viewer back to meager beginnings. Of course, how hard is it to play yourself? They showed an amazing job at recreating their battles and victories on their way to becoming number one. Mary McCormack plays Allison Stern, Howard's wife and pillar of strength. She portrayed the care and love Howard's wife showed when no one else believed in him. (Even his father called him an idiot.) Their love carried Howard through it all. His movie wife could pass for the real Mrs. Stern. Her acting ability is definitely apparent. Private Parts is a must-see, especially for those that haven't read the book. Although I would have liked to see more of Howard's life, especially after he left WNBC, the movie covered his path well. Howard Stern is even winning over non-listeners with this clever and hysterical look at his life. This movie has it all: comedy, drama, and love. I highly recommend reading the book because only the book can top the movie. But this film packs more than enough in its almost two hour bio. Go see it! Also, don't forget to stay through the end credits for three funny scenes, featuring among others, “Stuttering” John. “Litapalooza” Literary Festival on April 2 featured five guest writers, including PSU grad and former Delcoite Sadie O’Deay (above), as well as many student writers/ performers including the Lion's Globe Drama Group who gave a one-act reading of Edward Albee’s “Sandbox.” Amateur Poetry Contest Offers $48,000 In Prizes Poetry enters the 21st century with a brand new Internet poetry contest, www.poetry.com! Carrey’s Back By Audie Miller Jim Carrey isback! Liar, Liar may be the name of the film, but totally hysterical is what it was. Carrey proves that slap-stick is not his only comedic talent. He can act funny, too! The movie takes place in present day Los Angeles with Carrey as an ambitious, but dishonest lawyer named Fletcher. Fletcher's lies earn him a possible promotion to partner, but wreck havoc on his personal life. His ex-wife is considering moving their son, Ben, to Boston with her new boyfriend, mainly because Fletcher's lies and unkept promises are hurting the family. On his son’s birthday, the little boy makes a wish that his father could not tell a single lie for one day. Miraculously, it comes true. From almost losing his job to almost losing his family, Fletcher's sudden urge to tell the truth takes you ona long ride of belly-aching laughter. This film gives you not only a look at Carrey’s comedic talent, but for the first time, he proves he can act also. Throughout the film the audience laughed and carried on, but you got the sense they, too, felt Carrey’s acting abilities. This film redeems Carrey after the stinker The Cable Guy. Jim Carrey carries this film on talent and charm. He has reestablished himself as a true performer. Once again, Jim Carrey proves that he really is the Twenty- Million Dollar Man!
