In addition to general recognitions, Student Life will be announcing the winners of three prestigious awards for this campus. The Walker Award is an honorable University-wide award that applauds outstanding service to the campus and community. In May a luncheon is held at the Nittany Lion Inn at University Park for these honorees from the entire Commonwealth system. University Scholar Makes Historic Record at Delco By Greg Jurkowski Many proud students will receive their associate and baccalaureate degrees at Delco’s Graduation ceremonies on Thursday, May 15. But only one will be making campus history: James Foltz (8th Semester, English). “Certainly, I'm proud to be the first student of Penn State Delco graduating with a University Scholars degree,” said James when asked how he felt about the distinction. James will graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with Honors in American Studies. His 110- page thesis is titled “Stains White City Could Not Paint Over.” Itis about the hypocrisies surrounding and within the World Columbian Exposition in Chicago of 1893. James’s accomplishment is a great honor to this campus and will help to pave the way for the changes it will be undergoing in July as a member of the new Commonwealth College. When asked how he felt about being a part of these changes, James said, “It’s a privilege to be part of this campus’s growth towards offering more four year programs.” The Commencement ceremony will take place at 7:00 in the Vairo Library and will feature Ernest E. Jones, Esq as Commencement speaker. (Continued on page 8) Study Tips for Finals Week By Ryan Dougherty It’s that time of year again. The most bittersweet week in the life of a college student— Finals Week! That's - right, during the week of May 5 through May 9, it is once again time to prove just-how much you've learned this year. For all those rainy mornings when you decided not to come to school (or all the sunny ones for that matter), it’s time to pay the price. For those who have worked hard all semester, it’s the culmination of the term and the portend of a long summer. Whether or not you have attended class faithfully, finals are stressful and intimidating for most students. Therefore, try not to spend the night before your exams promising yourself you'll glance at your notes during commercial breaks of Seinfeld. Don’t put off studying until the intermission between periods of the Flyers game (even though I will). Desperate times call for desperate measures, but you can be saved! The Learning Center (109 Vairo) offers salvation. Study groups are scheduled for the week of finals. A “Focus on Finals” program has been scheduled for May 1 and 2, from 2-7 PM. The extended study sessions will be held amidst quiet music and free food. “It is much casier to study when surrounded by other people,” commented Mike Tygh (3rd semester, EMS). Also, the Learning Center can help you improve your writing skills for that term paper you’ve been putting off and is now due. Check out the Learning Center for finals preperation—it may be your only hope! McMullen Named Outstanding Teacher By Erin Lulevitch Drum roll please.
