Well," said the farmer at last, "I've got the best pf all of you." "How so ?" asked all. " In me you've only got one fool, while in you I've got above a dozen." 3" Bright little girl" The robbers can't steal my mamma's diamond ear- rings, 'cause papa's hid them." If anything is left, it may go to Terrence O'Carty In sweet ould Ire land." EST A four-year-old saw his parents preparing for church, and asked them to take him along with them. He was told he was too little, and must wait till he should grow bigger. "Well," re turned he, "you'd better take me now, for when I get bigger I may not want to go." The parents saw the point; he was taken. Mrs. Whiteflour had company. Now, if there ia one thing more than another on which Mrs. Whiteflour prided herself, It was her cooking. "Will you try some of my sponge cake, Mrs. TattletongueV'said she; "It Isn't very good, to be sure. I never had such poor luck in my life as I did In making it." "Why ma," cried Johnny, In amazement, "you said yesterday that was the best sponge cake you ever made I " tfA friar once met some medical stu dents, who asked him. " Do you know the difference between a friar and a jackass t Give it up V " Yes, I give it up." "Well, said they, "one wears a cross on his breast and the other on his back." "Now," said the friar, "do you know the difference between a medical student and a jackass ? Give It up'" "Yes, we give it up ; we don't know the difference." "Neither do I," said the friar. Ifig" Tommy is just old enough to un destand literally what he hears in church, a place he dreads to go to, for Sunday is a day of misery to him. The other morning he came home in a gloomy state of mind, and confidentially informed bis mother that he didn't want to go to heaven. Upon being asked why, he said there was too much Sun day there, for he heard the minister read out of a book that it was a place "where congregations never break up,v and Sabbaths never end," and he thought one Sunday a week was all he could stand. C& In a wild part of Scotland a dealer In fish used to drive his cart a consider able way inland. On one occasion, when passing a wild moor, where, although there did reside a schoolmas ter, the knowledge of the inhabitants of affairs in general was not very exten sive, he dropped a lobster. Some children picked It up, and wondering what the strange looking creature could be, took it to the schoolmaster. The dominie put cjn his "spectacles," and turning it over and over examined it carefully. "Weel," at length said the oracle, "I ken maist o' the wonderful animals o' creation, except twa, and those twa I never saw. They are an elephant and a turtle dove; and so this must be one o' the twa." A Marriage Ceremony Interrupted. The Waynesboro (Ga.) "Herald" says : At a colored wedding ceremony In this place on Thursday night last an amua ing sensation was created. Just after the minister asked if any one had any "objection why these parties should not be joined in the holy bonds of matri mony" an old man, a former lover of the bride expectant, sprang up nervous ly and said: "Yes, I object, for de cause dat man can't give dat woman bread 'nuffto eat, and for dat cause I object." The old man was promptly ejected and tbe ceremony concluded, but he cried, It la said, all the next day lor his "lost bride."
