Made up of no more than four pictures from each state, the exhibit will first be shown at the annual 4-H Congress in Chicago, Nov. 29 - Dec. 4, and will later be on display at the National 4-H Center and U.S. De- partment of Agriculture in Washington D.C. PSP A ii Police reported near solution to Riverview School burglary The Bulletin has learned from reliable sources that the recent burglary at Riverview School is being jointly and successfully in- vestigated by the police departments of East Done- gal Township and Marietta and Mount Joy boroughs. Mount Joy Boro offic- ials and their attorneys attended a Public Utilities Commission this Monday to press for Penn-DOT funds to repair Mount Joy's railroad bridges. Boro manager Joe Bate- man and Council Vice-pres- ident Elmer Groff testified at the meeting. The PUC will decide whether Penn-DOT or Mount Joy Borough is Ten Cents responsible for maintaining the bridges. “Everyone agrees that something needs to be done.’’ Bateman said, ‘‘but nobody wants to pay for it.” Boro presses railroad to honor agreement to maintain bridges The Boro Council is asking the railroad to carry out the recommendations of tiie Lancaster County Plan- ning Comtnission: The bridges at Marietta and New Haven Streets should be upgraded to 20-tons capacity, at a cost of $1,70,000 a piece. Barbara Street crossing should be maintained at maximum practical capa-* city, at a cost of $6,700. The Lumber Street and Comfort Street crossings should be closed to traffic. Other bridges should be maintained. . Originally, The Pennsyl- vania Railroad agreed to es teonend build and maintain the bridges in exchange for permission to dig a trench through Mount Joy. Penn Central Railroad today is unwilling and possibly financially unable to live up to its original agreement with the bor- ough. RES am—" Mount Joy railroad bridges are in bad shape. Charles feted at last meeting of school board; Eugene Saylor, principal at Maytown, retires J. Edw. Charles presided over his last school board meeting Thursday night. Charles is retiring after 24 years as a school director and nine years as president of the board. At the same meeting, the board accepted the resigna- tion of Eugene E. Saylor, principal of Maytown Ele- mentary school, who is retiring Dec. 31 after 33 years of service to the district. (For more on Charles and Saylor, see pages 2 and 3.) Saylor will be replaced by James Lawrence, assistant principal at Riverview Ele- mentary School. He begins his tenure on December 1. In other business, the board: — Fired Kenneth Strine, a Maytown Elem. School fourth grade teacher for two years, for ‘‘unsatisfactory’’ performance. The decision followed evaluation hear- ings. J. Edward Charles — Appointed Mrs. Connie Koser as fourth grade teacher at Maytown Ele- mentary School. — Appointed Susan Lee Yurkowitz as high school social studies and English teacher. — Re-appointed Robert Kline, a school district authority member since 1968, to amother five-year term. — Accepted the resignation of head wrestling coach Walter Price. Eugene Funk will be the new coach, with Thomas Knorr as his assis- tant. — Was advised that the district's liability insurance may be dropped due to risks involved in the district's ownership of Sico-Chiques Park in Mount Joy.
