Page 4—SUSQUEHANNA BULLETIN DONEGAL SCHOOL PAGE 8 Seniors win Merit Scholar commendations by Carole Gibason Eight seniors at Donegal have been named Commen- ded students in the Merit Program by the National Merit Scholarship Corpora- tion (NMSC). The Guidance Dept. announced that the follow- ing students received Letters of Commendation: Jean K. Bixler, Jeffrey M. Boulton, James W. Byrd, Steve D. Hassinger, Joseph A. Meszaros, Kevin 8. Milligan, Melody A. Mumma, and Kenneth A. Wolgemuth. These students are among the 35,000 Commended students named nation-wide on the basis of their high performance on the 1974 Preliminary Scholastic Apti- tude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifyimg Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Commen- ded students represent less than 2 percent of those who are expected to graduate in 1976. Although Commen- ded students ranked high on the PSAT/NMSQT, they do not continue in the Merit Scholarship competition be- cause their scores were just below the 15,000 Semifin- alists publicly announced by the NMSC in September. The high standing of Commended students in the Merit Program shows -théir great promise. Their attainment in this nation- wide competition deserves public recognition. To increase their oppor- tunities for college, NMSC reports the Commended students’ names to the regionally accredited U.S. colleges they named as their first and second choices when they took the PSAT/ NMSQT in October 1974.
