September 24, 1975 BRAVES SCORE WINS IN “A” & “C”” GAMES by Jere Duke On Sunday, the 21st; the Donegal Braves Midget Football teams hosted the Blue Streaks of Manheim Township on the DHS field and came away with 2 wins and 1 loss. The ‘‘B’’ team opened play by dropping a 21-0 decision as they were unable to mount any offense. The visitors scored early on a 24 yard run, then folowing a Donegal fumble, the Streaks added 7 more and the Brave were suddenly behind 13-0 and still in the first quarter. The opponents added 8 more at the outset of the second quarter and that was the scoring. There were few bright spots for the: Braves’ offense led by Duane Musser, Darin Kolp, Todd Butz and Tom Burger as MT completely dominated the play. The defense, led by Mike Rapp, who recovered 2 fumbles, Jim Perry, Bill Dishart, Scott Hoover, Leroy Claar and Ron Kennedy played well in the second half and held the visitors at bay, but to no avail. In the “A” tilt, defense was the name of the game as the Braves notched a 6-0 win when midway through the fourth quarter, Jeff Duke knocked a Township blocker back into his own punter which caused the punt to be deflected; Duke caught the ball in mid-air and rambled S yards into the end zone for the lone tally of the game. While Donegal’s offense led by Steve Butz, Steve Neal, Steve Meszaros and Frank Brommer were fairly well contained by the Township defense, the Braves defense was outstanding. So com- pletely did the defense shut down the visitor's game that the only time the Streaks were in Donegal territory was in the third quarter when they intercepted a pass on the Braves’ 36-yard line. Jeff Kauffman and Phil Landis each recovered a fumble. Brommer, Duke, Scott, Bricker, Phil Spickler, John Longenecker along with Kauffman and Landis and the entire defensive unit were simply devastating. Cheerleaders for Donegal Braves Donegal Braves Midget ‘‘A’’ and ‘‘C’’ teams triumph over Manheim Township visitors Meszaros put the icing on the cake when he intercept- ed a desperation pass to end the game. The ““C’’ game tempo was a carbon copy of the “A” game as once again the defense called the tune. The Braves’ Daryl Risberg scor- ed on a S yard sweep late in the second quarter following a fumble recovery by Eric Brenner for a 6-0 lead and that is the way it ended. Brian Carbaugh, Tom Luck- abaugh, Bill Miller and Risberg also maintained sufficent ball control so that the visitors ran a total of only 4 plays in the fourth quarter and NONE in the third!!! The defense was led by John Yohe, who recover- ed a fumble, along with Bob Blevins, Kevin Fantom, Shawn Maxwell and Gene Wagner. With this hard- fought victorythe “‘C’’ team remains undefeated and we hope that they can go all the way this year. This Sunday, the 28th, the Braves will travel to Manor Ridge and attempt to keep the “A” and “C” tile hopes alive, while the “B”’ team vows to come away a winner also. “D” TEAM LOSES by Dave Miller The Donegal ““D’’ Team hosted Columbia Saturday morning, September 20 and were defeated 32-0 by a tough, experienced team. The first half saw the defensive front led by Edgell, Brady, Lippold, Albert, Bernard, Oxford, Hiltz, Wohlfiel, Embly, Good, Richards, Sante, Gordner, Crider and Thome try to stop the runs of the fleet Columbia backs. Good saves after long runs were made by Edgell, Brady and Thome. The defensive backs spearhead- ed by M. Yohe, Carbaugh Miller, Shelly, T. Yohe and Albright had their hands full trying to contain the sweeps. The score at half time was 19-0. As the second half began the Little Braves finally got their offense moving. The offensive line with Lippold, Edgell, Thome, Benard, Albert, Oxford, Hiltz and Donegal Brady blocking for good yardage through the line for T. Yohe, Shelly, Hostetter, Carbaugh and McNiff with Miller directing the attack. This was short lived, how- ever, as Columbia took over. The Crimson Tide which has a good passing combination x oo: found out the Braves have a good pass defense as Mike Yohe assisted by Joel Carbaugh broke up each attempt. The game ended 32-0. 2 Although the score does not reflect it, one has to admire this young team for SUSQUEHANNA BULLETIN—Page 9 C”’ team picking .up yardage not giving up when they where behind.
