July 16, 1975 Games for Maytown playground be- gan with registration on July Ist. During the first two weeks, there were games, contests and activities for all ages. The younger children had group games of mousetrap, red rover, dodge ball, and duck, duck, goose. To relax a bit, favorite stories of the children were told under a shady tree. The older children engaged in games of capture the flag, street hockey, and softball. Bingo was the activity held on the afternoon of July 3rd; prize winners were: Kenny Smith (2), Steve Henry, Dawn Smith, Floyd McNece (2), John Kersch- ner, Sue Heineman, Ther- man McNece, Barbie Mann, Brian Hart, Stephanie Bar- nitz, Judy Kerschner (2), Mike Gibble, Rodney Rich- ards, John Lauver, and Brenda Geib. Tuesday afternoons are reserved for 25¢ swim at the Mount Joy Pool. The bus leaves at 12;4S and returns at 3:00 p.m. Street Hockey was the main event on Wednesday, July Sth. The fifth, sixth, and seventh graders of Maytown beat the Marietta players 10-9. Scoring for Maytown’s winning team were: Tony Mann-4 goals; Jeff Mihajlov-2 goals; Wil- bur Myers-2 goals; and Tommy Hatt-2 goals. The colored pictures were placed in three categories - 6 and 7 year olds; 8 and 9 year olds, and 10 years of age and up. The judges looked for neatness and original color schemes. The winners were: 6 and 7 year olds - 1st. Jennifer Hooper; 2nd. Col- leen Barr; 3rd. Denise Cizauskas. 8 and 9 year olds - 1st. Amy Winters; 2nd. Tom Burger; and 3rd. Susie Smoker. 10 and up - Ist. George. Cizauskas; 2nd. Michele Smith, and 3rd. Mike Smith. A lot of activities are scheduled for the remaining weeks of playground. Children not yet regis- tered, may still participate in the program. Donna Hay sets record BEFORE YOU GO ON in music student test Nine years ago, a point system was started in the elementary schools of the Donegal School District, which was designed to record the progress of the instrumental music stu- dents. As an outgrowth of this system, the one hun- dred club was formed to honor those students who worked steadily for improve- ment. It was soon necessary to form a two hundred club, then a three hundred, and last year a four hundred club. This year, Donna Hay, of the Maytown Elementary School, broke all existing records by scoring 3587 points ‘in one marking period. At Seiler, the winner was Maxine Maxwell with a total of 1074, and at Riverview, the winner was Sandra Olweiler with a total of 518.
