Matoney of Mount Joy greets 1st lady Rosalynn Carter On Thursday, October 9, John E. Matoney, Mount Joy RD#1, was invited to officially greet Rosalynn Carter as she arrived at the Harrisburg Airport for a short visit in the central Pennsylvnia area. Matoney was one of about fifty persons in the receiving line. In meeting Mrs. Carter, Matoney said, ‘‘The last thing my wife Betty said to up the special committee. Council agreed to file preliminary applications for additional community block grants for Phase 3 of reconstruction of storm sewers and streets in the borough. Council did not disclose how much money the borough is seeking. Under the program, Front and South Gay streets would get new storm sewers and be reconstructed. Mayor J.R. Flanagan designated Thursday, Octo- ber 30, from 7 to 9 pm as “Trick or Treat’’ night for me this morning was ‘give my love to the first lady.’ ”’ Matoney did this, and Mrs. Carter replied, ‘‘Tell Betty I said thanks.” Matoney stated that it was a pleasure and privilege to meet the president’s wife. ‘‘She is a wonderful person and a great first lady.”’ In her press conference, Mrs. Carter said that Pennsylvania is a key state children 12 years of age and under. Four borough zoming hearings were held in the past month. Requests for a new structure at 30S Essex Street and for the conversion of a structure on East Front St., into a single dwelling by the Congregation Bible Church were granted. The zoning board denied requests for a garage and for changing the zoning at Gay and Market Streets from residential to com- mercial. in the presidential election, and although the polls indicate a race too close to call, she feels confident that Pennsylvania will go Demo- cratic on November 4.
