Thirty people met Thurs- day, July 24, at Columbia Baptist Capel to plan for the World Wide Pictures film, Joni, coming to the State Theater, Columbia, from October 10 to 16. Paul Kulow, the premiere : director, working out of the World Wide Pictures office in Minneapolis, was in charge of the meeting. Pastors, church delegates, and other committee mem- bers viewed an eight minute promotional film and mes- sage from Joni herself. The duties and responsibilities of the different committees were outlined. Joni Eareckson was voted the ‘‘Most Athletic’ girl in her graduating class at Woodlawn Senior High School, in Maryland. One month after receiving her diploma, Joni was a quadri- plegic, the result of a tragic diving accident in the dark waters of the Chesapeake Bay, leaving her with a broken neck. In a fraction of a second, she had been transformed from a young woman absorbed in a variety of sports to one whose life was seemingly at an end. As we reviewed the professional actresses we thought might be right for the role, we couldn’t find one to match her person- ality.” Joni was flown to Holly- wood for a screen test. The results were outstanding. In a powerful and dra- matic film, the agonies and the achievements, the joys and the hopes are shared with the viewer. The impact of the message is made even more outstanding by the performance of the star of the film: Joni Eareckson portraying herself. A report meeting will be held August 7 at six pm at the Columbia Baptist Chap- to report on church contacts. A pastor’s inform- ation packet has been sent to area ministers.
