The ceremony climaxed when chief engineer Leo Shank and fire company financial secretary Dennis Fackler used a fire axe to cut the ribbon in front of the new structure at 111 New Haven Street. Guest speaker Robert Haycock, retired Pennsyl- vania State Police Fire Marshall, pointing to the building, told the crowd, “This shows that you, the people of Mount Joy, are backing your men up.”’ Despite the building's high cost, Haycock said, Mount Joy ‘‘is getting off cheap’’ because of the high- quality, free fire protection Friendship Co. provides. “You can’t find the caliber of men to do this job without being paid for it elsewhere in the world,’ Haycock said. ‘““They’re here to do a job because they like doing this job. Even though they're [continued on page 7] Emergency CB club being formed in area An emergency CB club is now being formed in the local area. The group is looking for working mem- bers only, to provide help to law enforcement and fire protection agencies and to assist in the event of national, state or local emergencies. Members will also monitor channel 9, the CB emergency channel. The second meeting of the new club will be held Thursday, August 21, at the Bainbridge Fire Hall at 7:30 pm. Financial secretary Dennis Fackler extended a special thank you to some of the people who sacrificed their time for the project Mount Joy Borough Council voted Monday night to pay no more than $2000 towards reconstruction of the railroad crossing on Eby Chiques Road. Total cost of the project, including installation of signals and crossing gates, as well as re-surfacing the road will come to an estimated $146,000. -The state, ‘using federal funds, will pay 90 percent of the total cost. Five per cent of the cost will be paid by Amtrak, the government sponsored railroad. The remaining five per cent will be paid by Mount Joy Borough and Rapho Town- ship, the municipalities which adjoin at the crossing. Since the township has more footage along the road at the crossing, the Mount Joy Council felt that it should pay a major portion of the five per cent of the total cost of the project. Amtrak engineering esti- mates that work could get underway next April. The Health and Safety Committee of the Council will be interviewing appli- cants for a position as full-time policeman on the borough force. Council approved writing a letter of intent, expressing ‘interest in participating in a county-wide law enforce- ment computer information system. There is a good chance that one of 14 terminals for the system might be installed in Mount Joy. Cost of the service for a terminal would be $1407, All this week, August 11 through 16, the Pioneer Fire Company No. 1, Marietta, is conducting a fund drive. The zoning officer. is authorized to permit building on such adjoining lots. Corrections in the word- ing of the Zoning Ordinance concerning the construction of fences were approved. In addition, the Zoning Ordinance was amended to permit, by special except- ion, the construction of apartments for senior citi- zens in general commercial areas. Apartments in any section of the borough must cover at least 800 square feet.
