Letter to the Editor Letter to the Editor: Our Brownie Troop Girl Scouts, ages 7, 8 & 9, won some money a year ago, by having a float in a community parade. As a group it was decided to use some of the money for the community. The girls voted on planting a tree in Sico Park, Mount Joy. The tree was planted and dedicated by the brownies. Several weeks ago we had a picnic at the park, and placed a sign at our tree. It was growing nicely. This tree would keep growing and someday the girls could bring their children to the park, sit under the tree, and have nice memories. The whole community could enjoy its beauty and shade. But someone took this away from us. They took it on themselves to break off our tree, and broke drinking fountains at Sico Park. I am told this is a common occurance at this park. This is a place for families and individuals to have fun and relax. To enjoy the scenery and have a picnic. We have so few of these places compared to the number of people. Why destroy the ones we have? On Thursday I had to tell my brownies the tree they planted in the park was broken by someone. They - were as sad as I was, and asked, ‘“Why would they do that?’ with a look of disbelief. What were your children doing the weekend of May 18 and 19? Or could this have been adults? Browie Troop 323 Trudy Houck, leader P.S. To whoever did this: If this was your property, and someone deliberately ruined it, what would you do? Jaycees’ bicycle rodeo at Seiler, June 28th The Mount Joy Jaycees will hold their annual bicycle rodeo at Seiler Elementary School on Saturday, June 28, starting at 10:00 am. The Bicycle Rodeo features a training course in bicycle safety as well as an inspection of all bicylces at the rodeo. Bicycles may also be registered at the rodeo. Local artist Wayne Madsen designs MRA T-Shirt symbol In case you’ve wondered who designed the new Marietta T-shirts sold by the Restoration Associates on Marietta Day, the answer is local artist Wayne Madsen. Looking for a symbol that would proudly portray Mari- etta’s historical architect- ural assets as well as a stylish updated image of the town, Wayne came up with the graphic shown above. The T-shirts are available in several colors and sizes and are sold at Gallery 31, 31 W. Market St. and at Restoration Associates In- formation Center at 36 W. Market St. on Saturdays.
