Coach Cliff Shank sees a good potential year shaping up. He feels the team will definitely break .500. He thinks they can do just about as well as they would like to do. “They have the potenti- al,”’ he says. They won their first non-league game against Lancaster Catholic, 17-5. Most of the girls got into that game. They lost to E-town, 11-3, after a very shaky start. The Donegal girls were behind, 10-0, after two innings. Then, they settled down, giving up only one more run and scoring three of their own, but not enough to make up for those disastrous first innings. The next night they beat Lebanon, 12-7. In that game Sheree Gallagher hit 3 for 4 and had 2 RBIs. Marty Miller had 2 for 5S, Sherry Derr 2 for S, Brenda Hershey 2 for 4, Kay Pomroy 2 for 4, Joanne Storm 2 for 4. Coach Shank said that Brenda Hershey and Kay Pomroy ‘‘played well in the outfield with 10 put-outs between them.” Tuesday night the team plays Manheim, favored team in the division. Thursday they play Norleb- co. Both games are away. Tennis coach Loercher welcomes more players Only eight boys are out for the DHS tennis team. Coach Bill Loercher would welcome more players. In previous years he had from 1S to 20 candidates for the team. There is only one senior, four juniors, three sopho- mores, and no freshmen out for the team. One cause of the tennis manpower shortage at Don- egal is that the junior high tennis program was discon- tinued. That program used to send seasoned young players up to the high school. Coach Loercher would welcome a tennis program in the elementary schools as well as in the junior high. Loercher is looking for- ward eagerly to the arrival of George Zink in the halls of Donegal in the fall of 1982. George is presently ranked fourth in the Middle Atlantic States in the 12 and under age bracket. Donegal lost this past Monday to Warwick, 1-5. Tuesday they play Lam- peter-Strasburg here and Thursday Manheim Central. Girls track (cont.) [continued from back page] middle distances and high jump; Coleen Jones, discus; Marietta Aux. to C.
