Vol. 80, No. 13, April 2, 1980 Although Donegal School District did not have a grand champion at last week-end’s county-wide science fair, they did dominate all categories in the senior division with 9 winners. They also had one winner in the junior high division. Donegal swept all three places in both the earth science and the physics categories. First place winner in the earth and environmental science category was Phil Spickler, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Spickler. Doug Kline won second place in the same category. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kline, 567 N. Anne St., Mount Joy. Third place went to Lisa Hoffman, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin H. Hoffman, 528 W. Main St., Mount Joy. Donegal also took second place in biology with Connie Frey’s project. Connie is the daughter of Herbert B. Frey, Marietta, RD1. Tracee Sue Gotwalt, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald P. Gotwalt, 160 New Haven St., Mount Joy, took second place in chemistry. Donna Hay took third place. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul V. Hay, 14 S. Queen St., Maytown. Stacey Gingrich, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Gingrich, 217 Pinkerton Road, Mount Joy, won second place in the life science category of the junior high division. Girls’ Basketball teams honored, presented trophies, awards, gifts The third annual Donegal Girls Basketball Banquet was held Thursday, March 27, at 6:30 pm in the Hostetter Banquet Hall. There were 117 in attend- ance, including Donegal High School administrators, teachers, and friends. Mr. Ken Depoe served as master of ceremonies, and junior varsity coach, Miss Deborah Geno, presented trophies to the members of the JV squad. Mr. Bill Earhart, varsity coach, pre- sented trophies to varsity team. He also presented special trophies to five girls for outstanding performance. They are Sherry Derr, Sharon Her- shey, Beth Keffer, Sherri Kinsey and Tanya Mer- chant. Sherri Kinsey and Tanya Merchant also re- ceived plaques in recogni- tion of their scoring over parents the 1,000 career points. Special gifts of appreci- ation were given to Miss Kitty Etsell, Mrs. Loretta Kelly, Mr. Cliff Shenk, Mr. Charles Groff, Mrs. Betty Kinsey and Miss Tanya Merchant. The Donegal Booster Club presented the varsity team members with gifts, includ- ing County Title jackets, swimming and lodging at Howard Johnsons, a steak dinner at Mr. Steak and a grab bag with miscellaneous gifts.
