Longenecker, who was ordained to the Mennonite ministry and served as chaplain at Daup- hin County Prison, died Tuesday at 2 a.m., at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Stoner, Bainbridge R1, following an illness of one year. He was 89. He was the husband of the late Annie Lehman Longenecker. Longenecker was a member of Steelton Menn- onite Church and was the congregation’s first Sunday School superintendent. He took an active part in the ministry there until his recent retirement. His interest in the prison ministry led to his ordin- ation in the Mennonite denomination in 1957. He served as chaplain at Daup- hin County Prison and also worked with the inmates at Eastern Penitentiary. Born near Elizabethtown, he was a son of the late Samuel E. and Susan Lehman Longenecker. He is survived by six children: Erma L., wife of Herbert K. Maust, Harris- burg; Esther L., wife of Andrew K. Stoner, with whom he resided; A. Leh- .man Longenecker, Keyser R2, W. Va.; G. Mervin Longenecker, Mesquite, Texas; Harold L. Longe- necker, Lewistown, Mon- tana; and Anna Lois, wife of Elmer S. Miller, Phila- delphia; 21 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. He also is survived by a brother, Harry Longeneck- er, Lancaster, and two sis- ters, Mrs. Sadie Givens, Elizabethtown R4 and Mrs. Susan Hess, Middletown R1. Mrs. Anna M. Smith Mrs. Anna M. Smith, 85, of Pinkerton Road, Colum- bia, died Tuesday at Co- lumbia Hospital following an illness of five years. She was the widow of Monroe Smith. She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Bainbridge. A native of Bainbridge area, Mrs. Smith resided with her daughter-in-law, Josephine Pickel, Columbia, for the past several years. Born in Bainbridge, she was the daughter of the late Abraham L. and Amanda Bachman. She is survived by two sons: George H. Smith, Bainbridge, and James M. Smith, Elizabethtown; and two daughters: Ruth, wife of Thomas Kesselring, Bainbridge, and Nancy, wife of Robert Herr, Eliza- bethtown; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. frank S. Barton Frank S. Barton, a weld- er for Herr and Sacco, Landisville, died Thursday at St. Joseph Hospital after an illness of one year. Barton was 54 and lived at S87 East Market Street, Marietta. He was the hus- band of LaDene Hinkle Barton. He was a member of William Brenner American Legion Post 466, Marietta. He was baptized in the Methodist faith. Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late Harvey and Mae Haas Barton. Besides his widow, he is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Char- les Barton, Ft. Walton Beach. FL; Harvey Barton, Schaefferstown; Mrs. Emma Haverstick, Colum- bia; John Barton, Mount Joy; Mrs. Oscar Mull, Marietta; Mrs. James Hou- seal, Maytown, and Clar- ence Barton, Marietta. Mrs. MaryEllen Walter McGavinp Mrs. Maryellen Walter McGavin, 47, of 231 East Main Street, Mount Joy, died at 4:30 a.m., Saturday at the Lancaster General Hospital following an ill- ness of four weeks. She was the wife of the late John McGavin. Born in Mount Joy, she was the daughter of Frank B. Walter and the late Freda Burgard Walter. She was employed by Nolt April 27, 1977 Pond, Inc., Silver Springs. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Mount Joy. In addition to her father, she is survived by a daughter, Linda Ryman, of Mount Joy and a brother, Frank F. Walter of Eliza- bethtown. John €. Lynn John E. Lynn, 74, of Bainbridge, died Sunday at St. Joseph Hospital where he had been a patient for the past month. He was the husband of Eleanor Ging- rich Lynn. Born in Bainbridge, he was a son of the late William and Catherine M. Lynn. A retired merchant, Lynn had a meat market and grocery store in Bainbridge for 22 years. Later he was employed by the Masonic Homes as a truck farmer for eight years. He was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Bainbridge, and Bainbridge Fire Company. Surviving are his widow; a daughter, Dolly, wife of James Engle, Bainbridge; a son, John N. Lynn Jr., Maytown, seven grandchil- dren; three brothers and a sister: Luther, Elmer and Lizzie, wife of Elmer L. Givens, all three of Bain- bridge, and Ernest Lynn, Tucson, Arizona.
