Football Teams were host for the ‘‘Bicentennial Bowl’” held at Donegal High School field. i, The ‘‘D”’ Team, which is | the youngest team, played 2 { Hempfield, the League | Champions in this Division. j After a scoreless first A ® quarter that showed the Braves tough defense led by Edgell, Yohe, Oxford, Turnpaugh, and Smith, the Braves scored with 2 min- utes left in the second . quarter when Pat Turn- paugh picked up a blocked punt and ran 6S yards for a Donegal touchdown. The Braves had the lead going into the fourth quarter and held on the 2 yard line after a Hempfield drive. The Knights finally scored on a touch back and the score was 6-2 with time running out and 1:30 left to go. Hempfield finally scor- ed a touchdown. Although the score ended 8-6 in Hempfield’s favor, our hats are off to the ‘‘Little Braves’ and their coaches, who completely outplayed the League Champions. The ““‘B’’Game was next with the Braves hosting the Willow Street Team. The visitors started fast with a score on the first set of plays. This lead was short lived as the Braves come right back with passes by Risberg and Lucabaugh to Snyder and runs by Ris- berg and Kennedy. Risberg was soon over the goal line and the 2 point conversion to Snyder was good and the Braves were on their way with the score 8-6. Two more touchdowns were scored before the half; one by Risgerg and one by Snyder. The Braves led 20-6. The defense which | was strong all day had some outstanding plays and in the third quarter blocked a punt and Scott Hoover recovered the ball in the end zone for a touchdown. Tom Dohner also recovered some fumbles. Lucabaugh scored on a keeper and the Braves won by a score of 32-6. But as hard as they played they could do no better than 14-6, with Willow Street coming out on top. The “‘C”’ Team played last and put on one of their best performances of the season against an equally goo Willow Street team. After a tough First Half with the defensive team not yielding any yards with good tackling by Brenner, SottaSante, Miller, Halter- man, Rice, Edgell, Brady, Kauffman and Albright, the score was 0-0. In the second Half the offense came alive and in the Fourth Quarter with good ball handling by Brenner and good running by Rice, Thome, Miller, Edgell and keepers by Brenner, put the ball down on the 3 yard line. With everybody block- ing Brian Thome rushed over the goal line with 2 minutes left to go. After going ahead 6-0 the Braves did not yield and won the game. After the game Rick Breault, the Donegal Braves Athletic Director, presented trophies to the winning coaches and a trophy to each winning player. Losing Coaches were also presented a runner-up trophy. All of the football play- ers, cheerleaders and their ° coaches were feted to a banquet at hostetter’s in Mount Joy on Wednesday evening November 17. Mr. Walt Price was the quest speaker and gave an in- spiring speech to the Boys, Coaches and Parents. A very entertaining and en- joyable skit was performed by Miss Patricia Wolfe. Awards and trophies were given to players, cheer- leaders and coaches along with individual momentos to people who have worked hard and given of their time and efforts to a fine organization--‘‘The Donegal Braves’.
