UNION NATIONAL MOUNT JOY BANK Donegal Braves take on Hempfield at DHS On October 17 the Done- gal Braves were host to Hempfield at the High School Field. The ‘“‘B” Team played first. The Braves scored first after blocking a punt on the 3 yard line; Risberg made the touchdown on the first play from the scrimmage. A pass from Risberg to Snyder made the score 8-0 in the Braves favor. Hemp: field scored and it was soon 8-6. Donegal scored again and so did Hempfield and the score ended with the Braves on top 14 to 12. Outstanding offense by Kennedy, Risberg, Luca- baugh, Hoover, and Sny- der; and a strong defence by Yohn, Maxwell, Kautz, Hostetter, Armold, Dohner, and Miller contributed to a well earned victory. The ‘A’ Team played an equally good game against a good Hempfield Team. Hempfield scored in the second quarter and the point was not good. The Braves did not give up and kept the pressure on the Junior Knights with Dis- hart at Quarterback and good runs by Butz, Kolp, and Neal. A tough defense led by Perry, Bowles, Claar and Fellenbaum, which stopped Hempfield on the goal line and with the Knights leading 6-0 in the Fourth Quarter, Butz pas- October 27, 1976 Photo shows the ‘“A’’ Team in action against Hempfield. Come out and watch your future Indians. ““D’’ Team drops one to Columbia 12—0 by Mary Rose The Donegal Brave ‘‘D”’ Team met Columbia on the field Saturday morning and despite some valiant efforts suffered their second loss to this team. After winning the opening toss and elect- ing to receive the Braves failed to get a first down. Their defense did a good job of holding Columbia in the first quarter with some hard tackles made by Jim Wohlfiel and Greg Edgell. A fumble by Donegal in the second quarter spurred Columbia to their first touchdown. Columbia’s quarterback frequently put the ball in the air and completed a long pass just before half time. The end of the first half saw the score 6-0. Pat Turnpaugh kicked off for Donegal to start the second half with Columbia fumbling the reception and Pat recovering the ball around Columbia’s 27 yard line. Again the offense failed to gain a first down and Columbia took over on their own 35. They moved the ball down the field with an aerial attack to score their second touchdown. Again their extra point was blocked. The Braves de- fense got fired up behind Mike Yohe. Tyrone Smith, Greg Edgell, Jim Wohlfiel, Ron and Jeff Hiltz, and Pat Turnpaugh and the rest of the game saw no change in the score. Late in the fourth quarter, Pat Turn- paugh intercepted a long Columbia pass and ran the ball at least 25 yards. However, the Braves of- fense failed to take advan- tage and the final score was 12-0. The Braves ‘‘D’’ Team face Elizabethtown next Saturday in the last regular season game. They will play a Bicentennial game in November.
