Since Pequea does not have a football team, the game was played at night under the lights. A very good crowd attended the game even though it was held in sub-freezing weath- er. The J.V. game started at 6:30. The tension was at its height when the game Elementary in Indoor Grandview, Maytown, Riverview and Seiler Ele- mentary schools will partici pate in a Donegal Elemen- tary Indoor Soccer Tourna- ment on Friday, November Sth and Saturday, Novem- ber 6th. The game will be played in the Donegal High School gym. Starting time ended as a scoreless tie. The varsity knew that they had their hands full when the Braves scored two goals in the first half. At half time the score was 2 to 0 in favor of the Braves. Donegal was not to be undone as Henry Klugh, .assisted by Ron Meckley, put the Indians on the scoreboard. Though they tried their hardest the Indians were not able to penetrate the defenses of the Pequea team and the game ended with a close 2 to 1 score. The Indians are looking forward to a great season next year with returning starters Ron Meckley, Mel- vin Hay, Henry Klugh, Sang Moua and Ryan O’Leary. E-Town Booters finish season The Elizabethtown Bears’ Soccer Team finish- ed out a successful but disappointing season with a hard-fought 1 to 0 loss to Hempfield. The Bears over- all record was 11-6-1 but their league mark was a mere 7-6-1. The teams’ early suc- cess, winning 6 of their first 7 games, including victories over top ranked Ephrata and Manheim Township, was marred by a mid-season 3 game losing streak to underdog Penn Manor, league leading McCaskey and the Indians from Donegal. The season’s high point was a 3 to 2 defeat of previously unbeaten Hemp- field. The Bears scored 2 goald in the last 3 minutes to knock Hempfield out of their first place tie with Lancaster. Following a tough over- time loss to Pequea Valley the Bears bounced back to take their next three games, an 8 to 0 white- Photo shows E-Town Booter Mark Puffenberger in action against Hempfield. wash of Lampeter Stras- burg, a 4 to 2 win over Solanco, and a 3 to 0 shutout over Penn Manor. In their next outing the Bears lost a hotly-contested game to first place Lancas- ter by a 3 to 1 score. The Bears final overall photo by Big Puff goal scoring is quite reveal- ing because it shows how they outscored their opposi- tion by a 40 to 18 total. The team’s leading scorer was Greg Rorer with 17 goals followed by Mark Puffen- berger with 10 and Keith Rice with 6.
