The marathon, which lasts until everyone is too tired to continue, is held to raise money for senior citizens and youth athletic associations of the Donegal school district. Student Council advisors Walt Price and Ted Greider said 113 students signed up for this year’s marathon. Pledges should amount to $63 an hour. Volleyball players are not allowed to sleep during the marathon. Eight teams play for one hour at a stretch. Linda Stern among E-town graduates Linda R. Stern, 200 East Front Street, Marietta, is among 215 candidates for degrees at Elizabethtown College spring commence- ment. Exercises will be on Sunday, May 9, at 2:30 p.m., in Thompson Gym- nasium, with President Morley J. Mays presiding. The guest speaker will be Dr. Frederic W. Ness, president of the Association of American Colleges. Ms. Stern is a candidate for a bachelor of arts degree in communication arts. Remember Mom! Inc rrp ETT ER REE IEEE eR eS Grandview to hold bicen openhouse Following a week of colonial classes, the public is invited to attend Grand- view School’s Bicentennial Openhouse Friday evening, May 7, 7 to 8 p.m. Starting Monday, 34 two hundred- year-old classes are being taught at the Mount Joy school daily through Thurs- day. Items learned and made by the children will be on display. In addition to the displays, decorated class- rooms will be featured. Some of the rooms have been transformed into an early tavern, country store, early American living room. with stone fireplace, and quilt room. Friday will be ‘‘Local Dis- covery Day’ when all the 378 children and their Hi Semmes mst mat or VL teachers will go on six trips. The trips will include a walking tour of Mount Joy; a tour of the surrounding area of Mount Joy, Mount Joy Township, and East Done- gal Township; a tour of the Marietta Museum; a visit to Donegal Church; a visit to the Donegal Plantation; and a walking tour of Lancaster. In addition to the tours, some of the children will visit a home built in the 1700’s along Musser Road, Mount Joy, R.D. #1. Last week’s activities in- cluded S demonstrations; a sheep sheering demonstra- tion, a spinning demon- stration, a loading and firing of the PA rifle, the making of root beer, and the planting of the tulip tree, the Bicentennial tree.
