Pioneer ladies give firemen $1000 by Hazel Baker Mrs. LeRoy Appley, treasurer of the Marietta Pioneer Fire Company Auxiliary, presented a $1,000 check to William Bailey, president of the Marietta Pioneer Fire Com- Restoration Association plans by Hazel Baker Starting this April, the Marietta Restoration Associates will present ‘““Home of the Month” certificates to local home- owners. The awards will go to the homeowners whose efforts in restoration, preservation, or rennovation of old buildings are especial- ly praiseworthy. The Auxiliary earned the contribution by conduct- ing projects which would reduce the debt of the recently constructed new structure. Two Bicentennial musi- cals will be presented Saturday, May 15 at 8 p.m., and Thursday, May 13 at 8 p.m. The musicians are direct- ed by Mrs. Roann J. Lau. Marietta Senior League plans meeting by Elsie McCloskey The Marietta Senior Lea- gue will hold their regular monthly meeting in the Community House, on Monday, March 1st at 1:30 p.m. We hope to have a representative with us from the Visiting Nurse Associa- tion, Homemaker Program. This could be a very helpful program for Senior Citizen. Anyone interested in this idea, is welcome to attend the meeting and become acquainted with the details. Betty Groff entertains Carlisle officers’ wives Betty Groff, author of ‘‘Good Earth and Country Cooking’’, was guest speak- er Wednesday (February 11) at a luncheon meeting of the Carlisle Barracks Officers’ Wives Club. The Pennsylvania Dutch Mennonite from Mount Joy who operates Groff’s Farm, told how she originally got into the restaurant business and some of her exper- iences. She was introduced by Mrs. Joseph House, program chairman. Mrs. Groff’s cookbook, which made the ‘‘best seller’” list, won second place for the best cookbook in 1975. A new book, ‘‘From Garden to Glass’’ will be coming out next year, she said. Joycee-ettes meet by Vickie Brown The February Joycee- ettes meeting was called to order by President Mrs. Sarah Heckert. Messiah Children’s Home Chairman, Mrs. Sharon Funk announc- ed that the Joyce-ettes will be taking the children bowling at the Lincoln Lanes on Saturday, February 28 at 1 p.m. An Easter Party for the children at the Messiah Home is also being planned for Friday, April 9. Mrs. LaVon Harnish, chairman of the Sweetheart Contest, stated that a check for $780 was given to the Donegal Dental Clinic. The winners of the contest were King-Alexander Roberts and Queen-Melissa Long. Shane Stehman was 1st runner-up for the King and Troy Wagner was 2nd runner-up. Abby Gohn was 1st runner-up for the Queen and Beth Hower was 2nd runner-up. The Fashion Show Card Party is going to be held March 15 at the Mount Joy Legion. The chairmen Mrs. Donna Wetzel and Mrs. Sharon Funk announced that the title of the Fashion Show for this year will be ‘Fashion Boutique.”’ The price of the tickets are $2.25 a person. Committee chair- men were announced: Publicity-Sharon Green, Tickets-Mrs. Pat Hoffer, Tables and Tallies-Mrs. LaVon Harnish, Models- Mrs. Sue Gantz, Dessert- Mrs. Kathy Bower, and Door Prizes-Mrs Sarah Heckert. The joint Jaycee and Joycee-ettes Installation Banquet will be held on April 3 at the Holiday Inn East. The plans are being formed for the 75th Ban- quet. It will be held on June 10 at Hostetters stated chairmen, Mrs. Sandy Meckley and Mrs. Crystal Fackler. Chairman, Mrs. Sandy Gingrich announced the Club Women’s Tea will be on May 2 at Hostetters from 3 to S p.m. The Joycee-ettes and Jay- cees will both work on the Miss Mount Joy Pageant which will be held on May 1S. Mrs. Kathy Bower and Mrs. Donna Wetzel volun- teered to chair the Bazaar for this next year. Art at library by Emmy Lou Foley Mrs. Marty Brandt is displaying her art work at the Mount Joy Library during the month of Febru- ary. She is from Mount Joy where she teaches art lessons at her home. She was painting for many years and studied oil privately with the Lancaster County Art Association. She also has participated in local and other area shows.
