DHS Civics Club founders honored Founding members of the Student Leadership in Civics Club at Dallas High School were honored at a recognition ceremony held May 17 at the 92 Tap and Grill in Exeter. Students recognized were Adrienne Box, Christopher Dailey, Hogan, Hilary Hoover, T. Lance Machovec, Katelyn Reinert, ew Schaub and Adam Viercinski. Club moderators are Anne Butler, Joanne Drayer, Tom Gilroy and Dan Nestorick. Projects carried out by club members include a Community Veter- an’s Day Program, Martin Lutheran King Jr. School Assembly, Voter Registration Drive and Stamp Out Hunger. Club members also attended a PA Town Meeting on Civics hosted by Judge Marjorie O. The schedule concludes at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 7, with a Grand Finale in both the Great Hall and the Buckingham Performing Arts Center, North Sprague Ave- nue, on the campus of the Upper School. Among this season’s high- lights are a free concert at 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 3, in the Great Hall, featuring the nationally- recognized violinist Dr. Lewis Wong in a performance of the Fifth Brandenburg Concerto; President Obama’s Own Wood- wind Quintet in a free perform- ance on Tuesday, July 20, in the Great Hall; an exciting free dance performance featuring a variety of dance styles at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 25, in the Buck- ingham Performing Arts Center; a free performance of fascinating world music by the unique Quey Percussion Duo at 8 p.m. on Sun- day, Aug. 1, in the Great Hall; and an exuberant production of the Broadway hit musical “Two Gentlemen of Verona” at 8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, Aug. 5 and 6, at the EM. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts in Wilkes-Barre. Tickets are $18 for adults, $10 for students and se- nior citizens and will be available in advance and at the door. Among the many accom- plished musicians and artists serving this year’s Institute as faculty are Maestro Lawrence Loh, music director of the North- east Pennsylvania Philharmonic; Dr. Victor Liva, music director and conductor of the Cleveland Philharmonic; Steve Fidyk, drummer with the Army Blues Jazz Ensemble, Washington, D.C.; and Dave Bixler, profes- sional recording saxophone mu- sician and head of jazz studies at Montclair University.
