Born in Beaver Meadows, he was a graduate of Hazleton High School. He served in the U.S. Na- vy and Naval Reserve from 1958- 68 and had sailed on the USS Randolph out of Norfolk, Va. He had been a route salesman most of his working life and had been employed by Spaulding Bakery, Stroehmann Bakery and Keebler Bakers, all of Hazleton, and by Holsom Butter Krust Bak- ers, Pittston, retiring in 2007. Currently, he had been a courier with the Wyoming Valley Health Care System, Wilkes-Barre. Surviving are his wife, Mary El- len Wallace Burke Hnasko, at home; a daughter, Mrs. Paula Gallagher, Baltimore, Md.; a son, Scott R., Tannersville; step-sons, Thomas Burke and John Burke, both of Wilkes-Barre; Patrick Burke, of Dallas; six grandchil- dren; nine step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Lorraine Gaydos, Ha- zleton; nieces and nephews. KLEINTOB - Bessie Caroline (neé Saxe), 92, died Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Bonham Nurs- ing and Rehabilitation Center, Stillwater. Born in Bethel Hill on Feb. 20, 1918, she graduated from Hun- tington Mills High School in June 1935 and began employment as a housekeeper for the Ricketts fam- ily (for whom Ricketts Glen State Park is named). She remained under their employ at both their summer home on Red Rock Mountain and at their permanent residence on Wyoming Avenue in Forty Fort, until her marriage in 1939. When she resided in Hunting- ton Mills, she hosted a young man from Brooklyn, N.Y. through the Fresh Air Program for six summers. She was a very active member of the Town Hill United Metho- dist Church and its United Meth- odist Women. She held various offices on the church administra- tive council and taught Sunday School and Bible studies. In April 2009, she was named “Volunteer of the Year” by the State Correctional Institution at Dallas for her work there as an in- spirational leader of the Yoke Fel- lowship Prison Ministry. In Octo- ber 2009, Governor Ed Rendell recognized her on the state level for her work at the prison. Surviving are her daughters, Gail Whitebread, of Blakeslee; and Shelley Russin, of Kingston; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grand- children; nieces and nephews. Born on August 23, 1930 in Bloomsburg, he attended Bloomsburg Area Schools and graduated from Bloomsburg High School, Class of 1950. He joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 1950 and served his country dur- ing the Korean and Vietnam War eras. Following his retirement from active duty in November 1970, he returned to Northeastern Penn- sylvania, settled in Sweet Valley and worked for three years at Muskin Pools, Wilkes-Barre, pri- or to living in Shavertown, and assuming a second career that spanned 21 years as a rural mail carrier out of the Hunlock Creek Post Office. A veteran life member of the Jackson Township V.ED. since 1977, he was also a member of The American Legion Post 672, USCGC Chief Petty Officers’ As- sociation and Icebreaker Macki- naw Maritime Museum.
