This is the third summer the Shavertown girl has attended the camp. “The food’s great and all the counselors, plus Debbie, and all the activities we do,” Bonk said. Abby McCabe, Sara Lojewski and Leah Gorr, all 10 years old and residents of Shavertown, so- cialized during their morning snack. The girls know each other from Dallas Elementary School and are happy to see each other and make new friends. “I like to come to camp to see my friends and the things we do are really fun,” McCabe said. Many of the camp counselors attended the day camp or resi- dent camp as children. Camp community services director Jo- dy Dutton is spending her 13th summer at the camp. The full- time employee, formerly of Har- veys Lake, lives at the camp year round and attended the resident camp for many years as a child. She also lived at the camp in the summers when her father, Stu Tripler, worked as the program director. Dutton says the camp remains functional in off seasons as many church groups hold retreats at the site and people rent the pavil- ion for parties and even wed- dings. Special family, father and son and paintball weekends are also offered. In addition, the Dal- las School District holds field trips to the camp. A small van currently picks up children in Kingston to shuttle them to day camp. Next year, the camp plans to form a bus route to transport children from the val- ley and after-school programs are also currently in the works for the For more information on Camp Orchard Hill, call the camp office at 333-4098 or visit www.camporchardhill.com. Anyone who wishes to attend only the get-together at the social hall may do so for $10. Rusonis was diagnosed with RSD after she could not even rub a sheet against the skin on her ankle because she was in so much pain. She has used crutches and a wheelchair peri- odically since her diagnosis. Rusonis says the disease hits her hard every other year, par- ticularly in the wintertime. “I'm a very big hunter so this past year when I was in the wheelchair, it hit me really hard,” she said. “I still went hunting on my quad.” Rusonis receives physical therapy at John Heinz in Dallas and also regularly communicat- es with Keith Orsini, co-foun- der and director of American RSDHope. A motorcycle run seemed like a perfect fit for Ru- sonis since she and her entire family bike enthusiasts. Partici- pants in her motorcycle ride have the option to donate their fee to either of the two orga- nizations. John Rusonis, Katie’s father, purchased a new 2008 Harley Davidson Ultra Glide last year in anticipation of the event. He will be the lead bike in the ride with Katie his passenger. “I've been planning this since ninth-grade,” Katie said. “It’s something that is very personal for me.” The Back Mountain Phillies won the National Little League Majors championship this season.
