Dallas girl joins childhood friends to compete in today’s Wilkes-Barre Triathlon Preparing for today’s triathlon are, from left, Katlin O'Hara, Paige Kyle and Molly Chamberlain. The girls, now 20 years old, have been swimming with and against each other since they were ters. Paige Kyle challenged her two long-time friends — and they ac- cepted. Kyle, with friends Katlin O’Hara and Molly Chamberlain, will compete today in the Wilkes- Barre Triathlon held in the Back Mountain. During a recent get together, Kyle suggested the trio challenge themselves by competing in the triathlon — and the other two took her up on the offer. O’Hara has participated in the swim portion of the triathlon in the past but this year’s event will be a first-time experience for Kyle and Chamberlain. The girls are competing as individuals and are entered in all three legs of the triathlon — swim, bike and run. The 2009 Wilkes-Barre Triath- lon starts with a 1.5K swim in Harveys Lake, followed by a 40K bike ride through Harveys Lake, Noxen, Kunkle, Dallas Township, Dallas Borough and Jackson Township before ending at the Penn State/Wilkes-Barre cam- pus. The final leg of the event is 3 Kingston the Penn State campus. The girls first met at about 6 years of age when they took swim lessons at the Wilkes-Barre YM- CA - and have been swimming with and against each other ever since. With O’Hara and Chamberlain swimming for the Wyoming Val- ley West Spartans and Kyle a member of the Dallas High School swim team, all three girls were good enough during their high school years to earn berths in the state swim meet. Today, Kyle is a member of a cy- cling team at Colorado State Uni- versity, Chamberlain swims and plays water polo for Sienna Col- lege in New York and O'Hara is a member of the Syracuse Univer- sity swim team. All three will en- ter their junior years this fall. Kyle is the daughter of Dave and Karen Kyle, of Dallas.
