As communication majors and advocates for a healthy media diet among individuals and families alike, the stu- dents have implemented MediaBytes, a media aware- ness program/event that they presented at the Lake-Leh- man Junior/Senior High School recently. The Media Fair part of the event allowed for students and their parents to interact with local media profession- als to see the media from the other side of the screen. The program ended with a game show, allowing parents and students to compete in an exciting exchange of informa- tion that was not only fun, but reiterated everything they learned throughout the day, conclusively showing families how they can enjoy the media together. Derek Kopen displays art work at FF bank Derek Kopen, a Wyoming Seminary student, is currently exhibiting a collection of his prize-winning artworks at the Forty Fort branch of the Citi- zens Bank. Kopen began studying art at the age of 5 with artist Sue Hand of Dallas. He has become profi- cient in all fine art drawing and painting media and is a consis- tent prize winner in numerous art competitions. This past March, he won the Best of Show trophy at the prestigious Su- zanne Maria Rossetti Memorial Juried Art Contest exhibited at Luzerne County Community College’s Schulman Gallery. Kopen, who lives in Shaver- town with his parents, Dr. Dan and Kathy Kopen, is active in Wyoming Seminary’s student government, Blue Key (Com- munity Service), the tennis team and serves as editorin- chief of the school newspaper. He is a member of the Pennsyl- vania En Plein Air Society and a teaching assistant at Sue Hand’s Imagery. The exhibit includes views of Hillside Farms and Hunlock Creek as well as wildlife still life and Kopen’s signature subject, the American flag in towns- capes. Kopen’s work may be viewed at the Forty Fort Citizens Bank, corner of Welles Street and Wyoming Avenue through May 3 during regular banking hours. Chollak art work displayed The Dallas branch of the Citi- zens Bank is currently exhibit- ing a solo display of artworks by Diane Chollak, a local artist who has exhibited widely in the area. Chollak’s drawings and paint- ings depict such popular imag- ery as landscapes with old trucks and still lifes of colorful § fruits and vegetables. Her exhi- bition compositions have been created with colored pencils, watercolors and the newly pop- ular watermiscible oils. Chollak and her husband, Chris, reside in Dallas.
