a aaalh a O Sunday, October 15, 2006 Tue DALLAS POST ts Sports Jr. Mounts earn No. 1 playoff seed Led by another impressive per- formance by the undefeated A team, the Dallas Junior Mounts won three of their four games last weekend against Edwardsville in the Wyoming Valley West Youth Football League. Here's a recap of the games: A DIVISION Brett Wanek scored two touch- downs, while Tyler Shutlock and Bobby Saba scored one each as the Junior Mounts stayed unbeaten with a 32-8 win against Edwards- ville. Garrett Artsma scored on three 2-point conversions, while teammate Dustin Siperko added another. Shutlock opened the scoring in the first quarter on a 50-yard run. In the second quarter, Christ Os- trum recorded an interception to set up a touchdown run by Wanek to make it 16-0 at halftime. Saba scored early in the fourth quarter and Wanek closed out the scoring later in the quarter. Dallas will take the No. 1 seed into the playoffs, which begin Oct. 21, 22, 28 and 29. Times, dates and sites will be determined. B DIVISION The Junior Mounts B team im- proved its playoff chances with a 30-18 win against the Edwardsville Eagles. Ryan Zapoticky followed a block by Matt Roncevich to score on a four-yard run to make the score 6-0. In the second quarter, Alex Ba- rilla hauled in an 11-yard pass from Zapoticky to make the score 12-0 at ~ halftime. In the third quarter, Zach Macosky scored from 13 yards out behind the lead blocks of Jeremy Geisinger and Logan Bullock to put Dallas ahead 18-0. Following an Edwardsville touchdown on the ensuing kickoff, Mark Michno scored on a 27-yard quarterback keeper and Zapoticky completed the scoring by running off the tight end Barilla’s block for a 22-yard touchdown. Edwards- ville scored added two late scores to account for the final score. The Dallas Defense was led By Michno, Macosky, Nick Luzetski, and Chris Behm. On offense, Mi- chael Gallis ran the ball well be- hind the blocks of his teammates. C DIVISION The Dallas C team suffered a 14-0 loss against Edwardsville last weekend. Despite the loss, the Ju- nior Mounts turned in an overall solid team effort. The results of to- day’s games in the league will de- termined whether or not the Ju- nior Mounts will receive a playoff berth. D DIVISION Xavier Barber ran for more than 220 yards to lead the Junior Mounts D team to an exciting 38- 30 win against the Edwardsville Eagles. Justin Hutchins threw a 30- yard touchdown pass and ran for another touchdown. PHOTOS FOR THE DALLAS POST/CHARLOYTE SARTIZEN Dallas downs L-L our different players scored a goal as the Dallas boys soc- cer team won its battle against Back Mountain rival Lake-Lehman, 4-1, last week in Dallas Township. Fol- lowing the game, head coach Chris Scharff and the Mountain- eers were presented a trophy from Back Mountain Youth Soc- cer. The trophy is given to the winner of the game between the two schools. Alex Baltimore, Eric Cannon, Devon Kornack and Billy DeAngelo each scored a goal for Dallas. Baltimore and Can- non also recorded an assist each. Gary Knauer scored the only goal for Lake-Lehman, while teammate Jeremy Stulo record- ed 32 saves in goal. Bevevino fired a six-over par to lead Dallas to the team championship while Clemente, a resident of Dal- las, won medalist honors with a four-over par 75. Joe Bevevino fired a 6-over par 77 to lead the Dallas golf team to the Wyom- ing Valley Conference team champion- ship last week at Fox Hill Country Club. Dallas’ first four golfers combined for 327 strokes as the Mountaineers won the title by 13 strokes, easily outdistancing Bishop Hoban (340) and Wyoming Area (342). At press time, Dallas, which success- fully defended its championship from a year ago, was scheduled to compete against Abington Heights at Glenmaura Golf Club in Scranton for the District 2 team championship. The Mountaineers lost against Scranton Prep in the title match last year. Dallas resident Jeff Clemente, a senior at Bishop Hoban, fired the low score at the WVC team championship to win medalist honors.
