Raiders C, D teams undefeated going into playoffs The Kingston Township Raid- ers youth football program won three of its four games last week- end against the Swoyersville Sailors in the Wyoming Valley West Youth Football League. The games were played at Lacka- wanna County Stadium. The C and D teams remained unbeaten and the B team posted a win to improve 6-2. The A team lost its game against the Sailors. Here’s a recap of last weekend’s games: B DIVISION Kingston Township got back on the winning track with a 34-14 win against Swoyersville, using a balanced offensive attack and a solid defensive effort. Quarter- back Neil Shaver threw for 75 yards and the Raiders rushed for 375 yards and five touchdowns. Jesse Shaffer and Quincy Pa- trick scored two touchdowns each, while Kyle Kotulski punched in a score from five yards out. Joe Delamater and Shaver added a 2-point conver- sion each. Defensively, Shaffer and Shaver each recorded an in- terception, while the Raider de- fense recorded three sacks and a number of tackles for a loss. C DIVISION The Raiders C team improved its record to 8-0 with a 30-0 victo- ry against the Swoyersville Sail- ors on Sunday at Lackawanna County Stadium. Omar Nijmeh scored twice, while Michael Ole- nginski and Bret Stors each scored on long touchdown runs. Tanner Gattuso added a 2-point conversion. The offensive line led by Adam Niznik, Nick Mathers, Ryan Martin, Mitch Kelly, and Jason Morgan helped the Raid- ers rack up 235 rushing yards. The defensive was led by Justin Cooper, James Farrell, Michael Golden, Ryan Boedecker and Chris Knecht. D DIVISION The Kingston Township D team improved to 80 and se- cured the No. 1 seed in the play- offs with a 40-12 win against If You Want Perfection... Swoyersville. Collin Pert] scored two touchdowns in the first half for the Raiders, who rushed for 425 yards, six touchdowns and two 2-point conversions. Ricky Morgan also scored twice, in- cluding a 65-yards on the last play of the first half to give the Raiders to a 28-12 halftime lead. In the second half, Jason Culp run for a touchdown and Dalton Gattuso scored on a 10-yard run. Defensively, the Raiders regis- tered a solid effort, slowing down a Swoyersville attack that was averaging nearly 28 points a game. The Sailors did not score in the second half. Jason Ander- son, Culp, Logan Baseski and Devin Robbins led the defense, registering 12 tackles for a loss. The Raiders close out the reg- ular season against Edwardsville on at Dallas High School. Mucha scores five touchdowns in win The Back Mountain Bobcats had quite an eventful afternoon against the Kingston Huskies in the Wyoming Valley West Youth Football League last week. The Bobcats C team earned a berth in the playoffs, while the D team re- corded its first victory of the sea- son. Results from the A and B teams were not provided. C DIVISION Justin Mucha scored five touchdowns as the Bobcats clinched a bye in the fist round of playoffs with a 34-20 win against the Kingston Huskies in Dallas Township. The win raised Back Mountain’s record to 7-1, giving it sole possession of second place. Mucha’s stellar performance in- creased his league-leading total to 17 touchdowns in eight games. The Bobcats took an early lead when Mucha ran for 50 yards and Cody Long added 2-point conver- sion to make the score 8-0.Mucha added a score on a 39-yard run on the next possession to make it 14-0. In the second quarter, quarter- back Zachary Connolly connect- ed with Mucha for a 55-yard pass to give the Bobcats a 20-0 half- time lead. In the third quarter, Mucha scored on a 45-yard run and running back Mitchell Ben- son added the 2-point conversion on a reverse to make it 28-6. After Kingston scored 14 unan- swered points to make it 28-20 midway through the fourth quar- ter, the Bobcats sealed the win on a 32-yard touchdown run by Mu- cha and a forced fumble by de- fender Cody Long. The Bobcat defense was led by Jeremy Bur- ton, Adam Burton, Zach Haddle, and PJ Konnick. Back Mountain plays at Exeter today with kickoff set for 12:15 p.m. D DIVISION The Bobcats D team recorded its first win of the season with a hard-fought 20-12 win against Kingston. The Huskies grabbed a 6-0 lead early in the game, but Stone Mannello’s 45-yard run set up a touchdown run by Cameron Brennon and Nicholas Whitesell added the 2-point conversion to give the Bobcats an 8-6 lead. Kingston scored early in the second quarter, but the Back Mountain defense stopped the two-point conversion attempt. On the ensuing drive, Cameron Brennon scored on a 47-yard run and Mannello added 2-point con- version to make it 16-12. Mannel- lo closed out the scoring on a 38- yard run in the fourth quarter. The Bobcats will be playing their final game of the season at 11 a.m. today in Exeter.
