The Dallas Post COMMUNITY Sunday, April 17, 2005 ‘Wordhorde™ April 29 The Friends of the Back Mountain Memorial Library group is sponsoring “Wordhorde,” the third in a series of open-mic nights held in a coffeehouse atmosphere at the library, on Friday, April 29. Doors open at 7 p.m. for performers to sign up on a first-come, first-served basis. This is an opportunity for creative expression beginning with age 14 through adult to showcase the arts of poetry, music, prose and monologue. A $1 donation per person is requested to cover costs. The evening will feature the winners from the “Friends Poetry Contest 2005.” Awards will be pre- sented to the winning poets and they will be invit- ed to read their poem. Fresh Air Fund plans summer visits The Fresh Air Fund is seeking volunteers and host families for the summer 2005 visits of children from New York City. Each summer, more than 5,000 children, ages 6 to 18, spend two weeks or more with host families in suburban and small-town communities in the north- east and Canada. Local Fresh Air Fund volunteers recruit and inter- view prospective host families, check references and coordinate activi- ties.
