Born June 26, 1933, in { Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of i the late Michael and Loretta ' Rothery Shonk. He was a resident of Trucksville for the past two years and previously resided ' in Dallas. He was a 1952 grad- uate of Luzerne High School. After graduation he joined the Marine Corps, serving during the Korean and ' Vietnam wars, retiring after 21 years of service as a Gunnery Sgt. Prior to retir- ing, he served as a plant supervisor for Raytheon in San Diego, Calif. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Virginia Martinaitis; brothers, William, Francis, George and Albert; sisters, Charlotte Banta and Doris Ruger. He was a member of George M. Dallas Lodge No. 531, F&AM,; Caldwell Consistory, Bloomsburg; Irem - Temple AAONMS, Dallas; Dallas American Legion Post No. 672; MCATA. Rinker Lane, Tunkhannock, . died Thursday morning at his residence. He was born in Concord, NC, on September 12, 1949, a son of James . Toomey of Lindenhurst, New York, and the late Ann Frazer ; Toomey. He was a graduate of DR. ALBERT SCHIOWITZ Former Chief of Surgery -at General Hospital The Schiowitz family mourns the recent loss of Dr. Albert Schiowitz after a pro- tracted illness. A 58-year mem- ber of Wilkes-Barre General Hospital surgical staff, former Chief of General Surgery, he did not retire until 2004. He had lived in Dallas for many years. Born in Wilkes-Barre, son of the late Mollie (Sommer) and Morris Schiowitz, he was a member of Meyers High Schools first graduating class and an alumnus of the University of Scranton and Jefferson Medical College. He was a resident at Wilkes-Barre General and served five and one-half years as a U.S. Army surgeon during World War II, attaining the rank of lieutenant colonel and directing surgery at the 129th General Hospital (England). His brothers, Nathan and Morton, were simultaneously stationed in England. Later he served as a Wilkes-Barre VA Hospital con- sultant for 25 years. He was active in the community, including service to the United Fund, and served as director of the ILGWU Health Center, a PAUL PRIEBE Past president of Dallas Rotary Club Paul Arthur Priebe, 85, a res- ident of the Back Mountain for 40 years, died Sunday, April 3, pioneer in diagnostic screen- ing. He was a member of Congregation Ohav Zedek and Temple B'nai B'rith. Dr. Schiowitz served two terms on the board of Wilkes- Barre General Hospital and is a past medical staff president. He was elected to WVHCS’s Inaugural Wall of Fame. The family also donated the hospi- tal’s medical library. Dr. Schiowitz was married to Jean (Fuerth) Schiowitz for 53 years. He is survived by his beloved wife, daughters Jane and Nan Schiowitz, sons Bert and Mark Schiowitz as well as sisters Marion Isaacs and Bernice “Jackie” Mager, ten grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. 2005, in Florissant, Missouri. Born in Far Rockaway, NY, he was a son of the late Ernest B. and Dorothea (Schmidt) Priebe. He grew up in Woodhaven, NY, and graduated from Concordia Collegiate Institute, Bronxville, NY, and attended Concordia College, Bronxville. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, 85th Infantry Div. of the Fifth Army in the Po Valley, Italy, and was the recipi- ent of the Bronze Star for brav- ery in action. He was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Dallas. He was a past com- modore of Harveys Lake Yacht Club and past president of Dallas Rotary and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of the George M. Dallas Lodge, Caldwell Consistory in Bloomsburg, and the Irem Temple in Wilkes-Barre. He was founder and CEO of Geneco Services, Inc., Dallas, and a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, the former Maxine Lash; daughters, Janice (Koch) and Donna (Beck), Florissant, MO; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. i He was preceded in death by his son, Paul A. Priebe, Jr., and brother, Ernest B. Priebe, Jr. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 7, 2005, at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Dallas. He was preceded in death by - RAYMOND ATKINSON Born in Trucksville Raymond F. Atkinson, 85, of Windsor, died Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at the Willow Point Nursing Home in Vestal, NY. He was born in Trucksville on January 15, 1920, the son of Henderson Guy and Teresa (Sherman) Atkinson. Raymond was a truck driver for Mayflower in Vestal. He was a Navy veteran, Marines Infantryman, and was a mem- ber of the Civilian Conservation Corp. - He belonged to the VFW and American Legion in Johnson City. Ray was known for his guitar playing and paintings, as well as his strength, courage, and love of his family. He was an honorable man. His wife, Janice, survives along with his eight daughters, Betty, Marlene, Janice, Ruthie, Katie, Terry, Penny and Jennifer; one son, Charles; a brother, Henderson; and sever- al grandchildren; great-grand- children; and great-great-grand- children. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth Martin, and three sisters, Molly, Jenny and Margaret. He was also prede- ceased by two brothers, Robert and Charles; a daughter, Shirley; and a grandson, Phillip. - Burial in the Lehman Center Cemetery, Lehman.
