Amanda’s story, “Mid-Summer Nights,” will be published in the national maga- zine’s April/May edition. In addi- tion, she will receive $150 in prize money. Cara Bestwick, an- other eighth grader, received an honorable mention for her essay “Touching Time.” All eighth grade students wrote submis- sions for the contest and the English department forwarded about 30 entries to the maga- zine. Eby earns full scholarship Elizabeth A. Eby, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Barry L. Eby, Dal- las, a junior at Dallas High School, has been granted a full scholarship to attend Pennsyl- vania Free Enterprise Week 2001 on the campus of Ly- coming College, Williamsport. Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week is a week-long, national award-winning economic edu- cation program offering stu- dents and teachers an inside look at the private enterprise system and how the free market functions. Elizabeth will attend week 1 of the four one-week sessions offered this summer. Approxi- mately 1,200 students from across the Commonwealth have received scholarships, which cover the cost of room, board, materials and scheduled activi- ties. She will join with business people to experience the chal- lenge of competition through a business management simula- tion, and will assume the roles of top management for fictitious companies, and will hear top business leaders discussing topics such as business ethics, the stock market, and careers in business.
