O’Reilly 65, Lehman 45 Back Mountain girls Katie Guntli and Maria Wright led the Queenswomen to a convincing win. Guntli had 16 points and Wright added 12 as O'Reilly turned a 10-point halftime lead into a 20- point victory. Theresa Guntli added 10 more points. Melissa DeCesaris led the Lady Knights with 15 points, including two 3- pointers. Jen Frank had 13 points and Kieran Lucarino chpped in 10. Dallas 42, Hanover 33 The Lady Mounts clinched a playoff spot behind Stephanie Simonitis’s 22 points. Jenn Noon added 8 points, Erika Turner had 6 and Jenn Noon had 4, including a 3-pointer. Crestwood 60, Lehman 46 Lehman trailed by eight at half- time ‘and stayed close through three periods, but couldn't over- come the Comets. Melissa DeCesaris led all scorers with 18, followed by Kieran Lucarino with 14, and Jen Frank and Danielle Kern with 6 each. DeCesaris canned two 3-point shots. ‘WRESTLING ‘Meyers 42, Lehman 24 Meyers followed a December ‘win over Lehman with a decisive 42-24 victory for the Class AA District 2 championship. Lehman ‘started strong, winning the first ‘three weights by major decision ‘(Aaron Kubasik at 103, Nick *Raczkowski at 112 and Jason -Maciejczak at 119). But Meyers bounced back, winning the 125 .and 135 matches with pins and 130 by decision. Sam Saylor (140) got the Knights back on track with a pin, and Justin Harris fol- lowed with a pin at 145. But the Mohawks swept the rest of the bouts. Lehman had easily beaten Western Wayne (44-28) and Nanticoke (54-16) to advance to the finals. Kubasik, Raczkowski, Maciejczak and Saylor won all of their matches through the day. Tunkhannock 49, Dallas 13 Matt Metz (125) and Lewis Spurlin (130) had the only Dallas wins as the Tigers recorded four pins. Valley West 29, Lehman 27 The Spartans came back after trailing 24-9 to keep Lehman from winning its fifth straight confer- ence championship, a title it will share with Valley West and Berwick this season. After Aaron Kubasik lost at 103, Nick Raczkowski (112) and Jason Maciejczak (119) won. Valley West then took the 125 match but Matt Gonazalez won by forfeit at 130. The Spartans took the 135 bout, then Lehman's Sam Saylor pinned Tim Casey at 140 and Justin Har- ris won at 145. Valley West won the next four matches, and Matt Kehler won by decision at 275. BOYS SWIMMING Tunkhannock 117, Dallas 67 Matt Schweitzer won the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle and Rich Dougal won the 100 butter- fly. Matt Kertesz was second in diving. ~~ GIRLS SWIMMING Dallas 131, Tunkhannock 53 Shannon Gaffney won the 200 individual medley and joined teammates for first in the 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay. Aileah Kvashay won the 200 freestyle, Cheryl Kirkwood won the 100 fly, Abbie Piscano won the 100 freestyle, Lacey Popson won the 500 freestyle and was on the win- ning 200 medley team. The cheerleaders work hard all year supporting the various teams at the high school. They plan pep rallies, make signs, hold spirit contests, run homecoming and parent day celebrations, cheer every game-rain, shine or snow - do community service projects, etc. They do all these things plus alot of hard physical training and practice to be able to compete. Some of these girls are at some type of practice or training or game every night of the week and some Saturdays during the school year and the summer months. They “also attend a rigorous four-day camp in June. A competition routine is nor- mally 2 1/2 to 3 minutes long. The girls must show their ability in cheer techniques such as arm motion, jumps, voice and enthu- siasm. They must also show stunts and mounts, dance and gymastics, all while moving into different formations in the time limit. The stunts take an enormous amount of body strength and con- trol, and must be timed and ex- ecuted properly and safely. This U-9 boys win U-10 tournament The Back Mountain United U- 9 boys travel soccer team recently placed first in the Lehigh Valley Youth Soccer League U-10 Indoor Tournament in Bethlehem. United placed first out of eight teams. United also placed second in two recent Wyoming Valley Sports Dome U-10 tournaments.
