6 The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, July 30, 1997 Pocono Orienteering Club ‘to hold annual The Pocono Orienteering Club #00 will hold its annual canoe ofienteering event Sat., Aug. 2, at Frances Slocum State Park near } Trucksville. , Participants can register and start between 10a.m. and noon at the public boat launch area. The entry fee is 85 per person for non- members. Ashortand long course will be available. "Participants can rent canoes from the park's concession or they can bring their own. Nine free canoes will be available from POC on a first-come, first-served ba- sis. Kayaks are welcome for indi- vidual competitors. Life vests are required. Compasses can be canoe event rented for 50 cents. In this event, participants will use their boating and navigational skills to locate control locations along the park's shoreline. Some foot travel will be required since the controls will be several yards into the forest. The event will be held regardless of weather. To get to the park, take Route 309 to Trucksville, turn onto Carverton Road and follow the state park signs. Orice in the park, follow the orange and white directional arrows to the boat launch area. Youth theater production slates auditions for Madeline ' Gina Major Ackerman, owner and director of Major Performing Arts Centers, is pleased to'an- nounce that she will produce a special musical theater event for youngsters aged seven through 12 years of age who would like to learn about theatre production and acting. "The program will be conducted “workshop” style, giving partici- pants the opportunity to work hands-on not only with a director, . musicians, choreographer, but also with the costume designer, ~ the set designer, and so on. Due to the set number of roles in the show the children will present, “The Musical Adventures of Madeline”, at the end of the ~ workshops in October, 1997, a limited number of youth can be accepted for this program. Roles are open for Madeline, her 11 schoolmates, several teachers (nuns), a butler, one boy, and the possibility of added roles should there be a large turnout. Auditions will be held on Thurs., Aug. 7 in Trucksville and on Fri., Aug. 8 in Pittston. Auditions will be conducted as a “learning” experience for the children who register. There is no cost to audition. Each child will be asked to sing a simple song of their choice, act out a simple line or two from the show, and possi- bly try a few dance steps if the role calls for it. This production is offered in cooperation with NE Junior Play- ers, Wyoming Valley's non-profit youth theatre company. A mem- bership fee of S60 will be required along with some assistance from parents on costuming, etc. and tickets purchased. All fees go directly to to NE Junior Players. Each scout was required to complete a variety of projects during the month-long program. The :scouts received their religious medallions upon completion of the God and Me program and were recognized for their achievement ‘during a recent church service at the Dallas United Methodist Church. They were married on July 26, 1947 in Second Welsh Congregational Church, Wilkes-Barre, by the late Reverend Emerson Rohart. Attendants were Audrey Gonda and the late William Curnow. Mrs. Tippett is the former Dorothy A. Daniels, daughter of the late John and Minnie Daniels. Mr. Tippett is the son of the late Herbert and Ethel Tippett. They are the parents of a daughter, June Lee Curran, Danville, PA and sons, William John of Robin Hood Lakes, Kunkletown; also Scot Alan of Franklin Township. They have four grandchildren,. Kerry, Kristen and David Curran and Billy Tippett. The couple also has a great grandson. Mr. Tippett retired in 1984 after 34 years as a Division Sales Manager from Brown and Williamson Tobacco Corporation, Lou- isville, KY. He is a Supervisor in Kingston Township.
