African, Native American cultural program at college The Cultural Events program of College Misericordia will present Old World, New Voices: A Celebration of Diversity on Feb- ruary 5 at 8 p.m. in Walsh Audi- torium. It is free and open to the public. The evening will begin with “Native American Celebration,” a program of traditional Native American stories, songs and dances presented by storytellers Joe Cross and Donna Couteau, who are tribally enrolled mem- bers of the Caddo/Potawatomi tribe and the Sac & Fox nation. Wearing traditional regalia, the storytellers celebrate the special relationship the Native American people have always had with the earth. In the second act, as part of the observation of Black His- tory Month, the Women's Sekere Ensemble will perform a program of African and New World music. Created by Omomola Iyabunmi, the energeticensemble captures the essence of tradi- tional rhythms and tones of the sekere, an African percussion instrument made of a dried gourd with a beaded macrame skirt. ‘For more information call 674- 6719.
