POST PHOTOS/JACK JONES After slow start, Knights blast alley West 6-0 By LEN KRYESKI Sports Writer KINGSTON - After nearly 30 minutes, Lake-Lehman field hockey players began to wonder if they'd ever score that first goal against Wyoming Valley West on Monday afternoon. The Lady Knights dominated the field of play by controlling the ball and keeping the pressure on the Valley West defense. It ap- peared, however, the halftime + score would read 0-0. Then it happened. With six seconds remaining until intermis- sion Debbie White fed the ball to Sarah Kasper who proceeded to slam it into the net past losing goalkeeper Mary Jo Raughley. Lehman exploded for five more goals in the second half to post a 6-0 victory over the Lady Spar- tans at their Third Avenue field. “That goal before the half really helped,” said Lehman head coach Jean Lipski. “They have to goin at halftime one down, instead of even and that just sort of breaks the attitude also.” Despite controlling the ball early, Lehman needed a little time to improve their passing and quickness in the circle. While they were warming up, the Spar- tan defense was wearing down. The Knights were then able to step up their game just a bit, but it made a big difference. “We got a hair faster and a little step quicker, that is what makes the difference in field hockey.” Jean Lipski Lake-Lehman coach “Their goalie played agreat first half and made some beautiful saves,” Lipski said. “She's just a sophomore and as time went on, mentally she wore out. That's going to happen, particularly with young players. We got a hair faster and a little step quicker, that is what makes the difference in field hockey. Tenths of seconds or a couple of inches is what al- lows a team to win or lose.” The Lady Knights didn't need even five minutes to score in the second half. Adrienne Miroslaw took a pass from Erin Edwards and scored her first goal of the season at 25:16. It was a game of firsts for the junior midfielder. Miroslaw saw her first ever action at the half back position late in the game as Lipski substituted freely for much of the second half. Lehman went up 3-0 when Miroslaw returned the favor by assisting Edwards at 21:54.
