April Naugle struck out eight .'Dodgers and allowed just one run on five hits during the complete game victory. Naugle walked three batters and also hit two. 4 The top three batters in the 1 Sox line-up, Julia Chiampi, Rachel Kukosky and Amanda Stolarick combined for five hits, ~ five runs and drew two walks. Jen Lentini hit a grounder back to the mound that could have ended the inning, but first baseman Stacy Amann dropped the throw from Sappe. Julia Chiampi drove home her sister with a single. The victors added a solo run in the fifth. Stolarick opened the frame by hitting a fly ball to left just over the glove of Shan- non Leary. Stolarick ended up Melonie Sappe for a walk. April Adelson drew a two-out walk to load the bases, but Naugle fanned Kristen Nelson to end the game. Individually Julia Champi was 3-for-3 at the plate with an rbi and arun scored. Kukosky was 2-for-3, stole a base and scored two times. Armand drove home two while Stolarick scored twice. For the Dodgers Sappe and Tarity each batted 2-for-3. Sappe got the game's first hit with a double to left-center in the first inning. Shortstop Hiller lead the Dodger defense with five as- sists and a putout. Sappe pitched five innings, walked three and gave up six runs on nine hits. It was an outstanding pefor- mance for the Red Sox in all areas of play. Not one Sox batter went down on strikes and the girls committed just two errors in the field. Matt Mark's bases loaded sacrifice fly drove home Karl Kvashay with the deciding run in what was the opening game for both teams in this year's District 16 Little League Tourna- ment. The teams first went at one another on Saturday, but a nearly hour long rainstorm with heavy downpours, gusty winds, thun- der and lightning forced postpone- ment of the contest after just one halfinning of play. It was the first District 16 home game for Horlacher since the league started playing at the Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company Memo- rial Field. The first pitch was thrown out by Luzerne County District Attorney, Peter Paul Olszewski. Down 4-0 after 2 1/2 innings of play, Horlacher crept back into the game with one run in the third and two more in the fourth before their fifth inning heroics. Pitcher Adam Harris led off the inning with a single. Kvashay then hit a fly ball down the right field line that Mark Shoemaker, a defensive replacement, couldn't hang on to. Losing pitcher Joe McGlynn struck out Jeremy Har- ris on a nasty breaking ball before Mike Burnside loaded the bases with a single to shallow left-cen- ter.
