6 The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, March 9, 1994 Thresholds program sets basic training The Basic Training Weekend for new Thresholds teachers is scheduled for Saturday, March 19 and Sunday, March 20 in the Parish House of the Prince of Peace Church, Main St., Dallas. Prospective teachers are asked to give 10 weeks of their time to a person very much in need of the training Thresholds provides. For the most part, the time involved is one evening a week or a part of a Saturday for a period of 10 weeks, starting April 14. It is not necessary to be a teacher or a trained counselor. A teacher's manual with a detailed outline is provided for each teacher. Thresholds teaches decision making and problem solving by stressing that every person is responsible for his or her own life. It also teaches the need to look for alternatives and to evaluate the risks involved in choosing one of those alternatives. While Thresh- olds is specifically geared to the person in prison, the decision making is a valuable tool for anyone.
