Dallas, PA ~ Wednesday, June 16, 1993 6 The Dallas Post Meadows' Candy Striper program to begin June 24 The Volunteer Department at the Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas, is now accepting applica- tions for their Candy Striping program. Teens 13 to 18 are encouraged to apply, and orienta- tions are scheduled for Tuesday, June 22 and Wednesday, June 23, in the All Purpose Room, first floor of the Center, from 9 a.m. to noon. Teens can select the orien- tation date most convenient for them. The starting date is Thurs- day, June 24, for summer volun- teer assignments. Uniforms are provided by the Meadows, and teen volunteers can help by assisting with residents’ activities, filling water pitchers, making beds, nail grooming and friendly visiting. Anyone interested in volunteer- ing as a Candy Striper can call the Volunteer Department. Carol Beacham's paintings on display at Mellon Bank Paintings by local artist Carol Beacham are currently on display in the lobby of Mellon Bank, Main “Street, Dallas through the end of June. Beacham, a resident of Trucksville is owner and operator of Carol Beacham'’s Hair Designs in West Pittston. She has only been painting for the past year, ~ yetshe has already become known for her handling of the oil painting ‘medium in the depiction of dra- matic light and shadows, strongly formed landscapes and inspira- tional skies. Her subjects are extremely realistic. The exhibit includes a beautifully glazed oil snow scene depicting morning light, the frothy watefall in a mill scene, the light splashed autumn trees surrounding a canoeist, and others. A member of the Cider Society, Beacham is currently studying under the supervision of Sue Hand, Dallas. Beacham was one of the special awards judges for the recent Suzanne Maria Ros- setti exhibit held at College Mis- ericordia. When not painting, Beacham enjoys country dancing. She is the mother of five children, two of whom still live at home. The public is invited to view this display of oil paintings by Carol Beacham through the month of June in the lobby of Mellon Bank, Dallas, during regu- lar banking hours. The wedding is planned for June of 1994 at the Shavertown United Methodist Church, Shaveriown, : Trucksville Volunteer Fire Co. asks for contributions The volunteer members of the Trucksville Volunteer Fire Com- pany are mailing a contribution letter to residents and businesses in their fire protection district. In the letter the volunteers are ask- ing for a contribution to help support the community’s fire fight- ing operations. There is no fire tax that pro- vides money for fire protection. The fire company only receives our residents and businesses; we will not be able to make these purchases”, said Brian Johnson, Chief of the all-volunteer’ fire company. In addition to these purchases, the fire fighters are facing higher maintenance costs for their trucks, equipment and for their building.
