The Dallas Post Wednesday, August 26, 1992.11 Dallas, PA Same subject, different vision * Sue Hand will exhibit with friend Leigh Pawling Creativity of expression is the hallmark of an artist. Reputation is built on the fact that each artist “sees” things differently than does the average person. Van Gogh and Gauguin painted together, often rendering the same subject, each in his own way. Andrew Wyeth and his brother-in-law John McCoy often shared a car for day trips in order to paint on location. In this tradition of artistic fel- lowship, a two-woman exhibit of drawings and painting by Sue Hand and Leigh Pawling entitled “Through Two Different Eyes” will be held at Sue Hand's Imagery, 35 Main Street, Dallas. The exhibit will include artwork created during the past year, both on location and in their respective studios. The landscapes and still lifes depict the similarities as well as differences in the styles of the two women. Sue Hand works in a strong textural-value style, influ- enced by The Luminists. She is a all-known local artist with a Ftional reputation who is cur- rently writing her second book. Titled “Art in My Heart and Paint on My Shoes,” the book, due to be published late this year, deals with 30 years of art teaching experi- ence. Leigh Pawling works more freely, delighting in color and line, often working in mixed media and occasionally nearing abstraction. She began studying with Hand as a child, earned a degree in Fine West Auburn, PA (Just 11 miles from Meshoppen on Route 267 North) LEIGH PAWLING Arts from Wittenburg University, and has also studied art in Italy. She is currently a student, class monitor and artists’ model at the New York Art Students League, New York City. Hand and Pawling are represented by galleries from Maine to Grand Cayman Island. The public is invited to view the | art work at Sue Hand's Imagery | through Saturday, Aug. 29 during regular studio hours or by ap- pointment during the exhibition.
