Flynn, received her degree in dentistry from the School of Dental Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania or May 21, 1991. Dr. Flynn, a graduate of Bishop O'Reilly High School, 1983, and LaFayette College, 1987, was elected to the Mathew Cryer Chap- ter of Eta Sigma Sigma, dental honorary society in her junior year and Omnicron Kappa Upsilon, national dental honor society in her senior year at the University of Pennsylvania. While at the University, Dr. Flynn, who was a Dean's Scholar for four years, was also a tutor in Biochemistry. She will be starting a General Practice residency in Dentistry at the University of Penn- sylvania in July. Yoniski receives FBI award The U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) recently presented Thomas J. Yoniski, Jr. with an award in appreciation of his friendship, cooperation and assistance with investigat- ing financial crimes. Yoniski, a vice president and security officer at First Eastern Bank, is the first recipient of the award from the Scranton Resident Agency of the FBI. He also received a letter of accommodation from William S. Sessions, director of the FBI in Washington, D.C. On hand for the presentation made in First Eastern’s Corporate Headquarters Building, Wilkes-Barre, are, from left, Charles Hydock, FBI special agent, Scranton; Thomas L. Ross commented, “The award bestowed upon Yoniski was truly deserving in light of his dedication to First Eastern through the years and because of his expertise in the security field.” Yoniski is responsible for all aspects of security throughout First Eastern’s branch network, which includes 54 offices located in a eight-county region of Northeast Pennsylvania. He is a graudate of St. John’s High School, attended Wilkes-Barre Business College and Luzerne County Community College. A two-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, Yoniski is a member and treasurer of the Luzerne County Chiefs of Police, member of the Crime Clinic of Wyoming Valley, Financial Security Officers of Eastern Pa. and the United Security Professional Association. Yoniski and his wife, the former Jane Roberts, reside in Lehman. Dr. Shaw named to LCCC Foundation board Dr. Andrew Shaw Jr., of Dallas, president and CEO of Midway-Tool Engineering Company, Inc., has been named to the Luzerne County Community College Foundation Board of Directors by the LCCC Board of Trustees. Dr. Shaw holds a doctorate in Public Administration from the Center for Public Affairs and Administration, Nova University, and a master of Governmental Administration from Wharton School, Graduate Division, Uni- versity of Pennsylvania. He also holds a master of Business and Public Administration from Nova University and a bachelor's de- gree from Wilkes University. Dr. Shaw is affiliated with the American Academy of Political Science, the American Manage- ment Association, the American Political Science Association, the American Society for Public Ad- ministraiton and the Governmen- tal Research Association of the United States and Canada. Dr. Shaw was named “Distin- guished Pennsylvanian” by the Ben Franklin Club of Philadelphia in 1978; and has been listed in Who's Who in America since 1984, Who's Who in the East since 1981 and Community Leaders in Amer- ica since 1982. Ie also received the Distinguished Service Award from the University of Pennsylva- nia in 1968, and a citation for Service from the Defense Civil Preparedness Agency in 1974, for services performed during the Agnes disaster. His other awards include being named Honorary Member by the Association of Pennsylvania Municipal Managers in 1980, in recognition of contributions to local government and to the Municipal Management Programs; and the Samuel S. Fels Scholar in Local and State Government by the University of Pennsylvania in 1258. Some of Dr. Shaw's many civic activities include serving as presi- dent of the Manufacturers Asso- ciation of Northeastern Pa.; Presi- dent of the Industrial Resource Center of Northestern Pa.; Board member of the Northeastern Penn- sylvania Technology Council; and member of the Board of Directors ofthe Rotary Club of Wilkes-Barre. The LCCC Foundation is gov- erned by community leaders like Dr. Shaw who represent a diverse corporate and community inter- est. These directors volunteer their time and expertise to strengthen the educational, cultural and eco- nomic climate of the community. As a director of the LCCC Foun- dation, Dr. Shaw will join others in obtaining financial support for the Community College through gifts from the community. The annual three-week course focuses upon current research and literature in an effort to enhance the teaching of English composi- tion. Summer Fellows are drawn from all levels of instruction - ele- mentary school, junior and senior high school, college and university - and from fields other than Eng- lish. Formed locally over three years ago by the Northeastern Pennsyl- vania Writers Council, the Project is part of a nationwide network held at over 165 sites. Although federal funding is anticipated, the Institute currently operates on a 1988 grant from the Bay Area Writing Project, and subsequent supplemental grants from the Pennsylvania Department of Edu- cation. A follow-up celebration is planned for mid-August for the distribution of an anthology, the presentation of position papers, and the discussion of consulting plans.
