The Adult League kicked off last Wednesday, June 26 with three evening games. In game one the Myunts led by Dave Puz Jr.’s 17 Mots defeated the Silver Bullets 59 to 54. Craig Coslett chipped in 16 for the winners while Karl Reiff fired in 32 points in a losing effort. In game two, the Fieldhouse dumped Bilko’s Bullets 64-58 in a past paced contest. Chuck Wilson was high scorer for the winners with 18 points while Tim Sutliff added16. Tom Shalata led Bilko's with 25. The final game of the evening saw the Dominators paced by Tony Welgosh's 23 points defeat the Runnin Knights 72-63. Damon Lisnow chipped in with 17 for the winners while Brett Gauntlett led the losers with 16. On Thursday afternoon the 12- 16 year old league kicked off with a pair of games. In game one the Bulls defeated the Bad Boyz 65- . Brian Brady took scoring hon- } with 19 while Ross Gdovin and Brian Ford each added 14. Jim Moran had 17 points for the losers. This is the first year for the Little League sponsored team by the Williamsport office and the league for 16-18 year old girls. The local league included three teams; Harveys Lake, Back Mountain and Northwest. The teams played each other four times. An All-Star team will be selected in the near future and will enter competition in late July or early August at Williamsport. Winner of that competition will advance to regionals in Maryland and the first place winner there will compete in nationals in Michigan. (Post Photo/C.M. Denmon) Morris gets Soccer Club scholarship The Dallas High School Soccer Club recently awarded its Book Scholarship to Patrick Morris, a 1991 graduate of Dallas High School. The son of Carol and Dave Morris of Trucksville, Pat will continue his education at Wilkes University in the pre-pharmacy program. The scholarship which will be used to purchase books needed for education, is awarded to a graduating soccer player who is dedicated to the sport as well as his education during his high school years. Cindy Hughes of Nanticoke was tops in country in strikeouts per game. Hughes, a left who recently completed her junior season, fanned 96 opponents in 93 innings for a average of 7.23 strikeouts per game. Junior second baseman Susie Slocum, a Lake-Lehman product, was 20th in the country in stolen base percentage. Slocum swiped 20 bases in 22 attempts for a success rate of 90%. Hanover Area grad Becky Welgosh was tied for eighth in triples per game with .24 per con- test. Welgosh, a sophomore, banged out seven three-base hits in 29 games. The Lady Cougars of coach Charlotte Slocum were also ninth in team batting with a .350 clip. Cordia collected 309 hits in 883 at bats in 34 games. Not to be out done, the Cougar baseball squad of coach Irv Post finished eighth in the nation in team batting with a .341 average. Misericordia ripped 273 hits in 801 trips to the plate. Senior Kevin Villa tied for 16th in doubles per game with eight two-base hits in just 23 games. Teammate Mike Post, a Berwick product, was 14th in strikeouts per game with 10.26 K's per nine innings. Post whiffed 38 batters in 33 innings of work. Picchi to compete in Keystone Games Heather Picchi of Harveys Lake will be among more than 6,000 Pennsylvania amateur athletes to compete in the 10th Keystone State Summer Games Finals scheduled for August 6-11, in the Greater Lehigh Valley. Picchi will be a member of the 1991 Pocono Scho- lastic Soccer team. Picchi also competed last year in the Junior Scholastic Division for the Pocono Region. Picchi will be a junior at Lake- Lehman High School. She is the daughter of Frank and Andrea Picchi. A two year letterman of the Lake-Lehman High School Soccer Team, Picchi is also a member of the Back Mountain Hellentic Flames and the Northeast Network Select. The Keystone State Games are patterned after the Olympic Pro- Frank Kamine hurls no-hitter in The Tigers defeated the Dodgers 9-3 Sunday night to win the Back Mountain Minor League AAA Championship. Frank Kamine pitched a no- hitter for the Tigers while striking out eight and walking six. Kamine also had two put outs and three assists. The Tigers offensive attack was led by third baseman John Baird who hit a triple with the bases loaded and scored on a wild throw. H.J. Amico and Mark Neylon each had singles. The defensive effort was led by short stop John Lukasavage, pitcher, Frank Kamine, second gram; athletes will earn gold, silver and bronze medals in each divi- sion of 28 sports at the finals. Major sponsors are: Bell of Penn- sylvania, and Bell Yellow Pages, Fidelity and Merchants Banks, Pennsylvania Blue Cross Compa- nies and Pennsylvania Blue Shield, Westinghouse, the cities of Allen- town, Bethlehem and Easton and the Pennsylvania Department of Health. They scored two runs in the top of the fifth July 1 | to beat the heavily favored Red Sox 11-9. Billy Lowe sparked the at- tack with a couple of doubles and three big RBI's. Randy Evans and Jeff Faneck pounded out two hits each to help the Rangers toward their fist A.L. championship game ever. John Martin had a big day for the Indians crushing a home run and also ripped a single knocking in three big runs. Kevin West, Ed Piekara and Brad Kohlialso banged out two hits each for the Indians. The Indians had an outstanding year coached by Larry Lettie going 14-2 in regular season play - great year Indians!!! Rangers 4 - Orioles 2 The Rangers beat the Orioles in a quarter final game 4-2. Brian Balutis picked up the win for the Rangers and Kevin Williams had two big RBI's as Randy Evans scored two big runs. Mark Shana- berger and Brad Adams had two hits each for the Orioles. Red Sox 20 - Tigers 5 In a quarter final A.L. game the Red Sox pounded the Tigers 20-5. Chris Lohen had an excellent day going a perfect 4-4 at the plate as well as being the winning pitcher with seven big strikeouts. Mitch Bailey had two hits for the Red Sox to help lead the attack. Sean Love had two hits for the Tigers. Red Sox 4 - Yankees 3 The second place Red Sox beat the first place 14-2 Yankees in a thriller extra inning game 4-3. Mitch Bailey struck out 11 Yanks in 4 1/3 innings and also had two hits to lead the Red Sox toward the A.L. championship game. Chris Lohen picked up the win in relief and banged out three hits for the Red Sox as well. For the Yanks Keith Zinn pounded out two hits. National League Playoffs Reds 9 - Giants 3 The regular season first place Reds beat the Giants 9-3 in the - N.L. semi-final game. Get this, 9 year-old John Habrack had two hits with a triple and three big | RBI's and brother Chris Habrack, A} nailed a double. Justin Jumper | and Jason Perlis combined on a five hitter as Jumper had two big | hits to help the Reds cause. District 16 Little League playoffs begin July 6 By CHARLOT M. DENMON Staff Writer The first round of the District 16 Little League playoffs will begin July 6 when the Little League Girls and Senior League Girls begin their competition and play every Tues- day, Thursday and Saturday until a champion is declared. The Senior League Girls will open Saturday, June 6 at 6 p.m., with Bob Horlacher at Mountaintop; Kingston at Avoca-Dupont; Har- veys Lake at Wyoming-West Wyo- ming; and Northwest at Back Mountain. The Little League 11-12-year~ old girls will play at the same time with Avoca-Dupont at Mountain- top; Northwest, bye; Harveys Lake at Exeter; Newport Township at Bob Horlacher; Nanticoke, bye; and Back Mountain. bye. The boys Little League playoffs will begin Monday, July 8, with 15 games and one bye in the two brackets the first night.
