You get the Northeastern Pennsyl- vania Philharmonic’s benefit con- cert, the “Battle of the Batons.” For the second year in a row, the Phil- harmonic combines shtick with the stick for another fun-filled evening the whole family will enjoy. Each of the privilege of conducting the orchestra by raising $15,000. Last year's inaugural concert was the ‘most single most successful fun- draising event in the orchestra's history raising more than $30,000. Gus Genetti, owner of the Genetti Best Western Hotel, decribed the the conductors will have earned event as “the most fun I've had at a Philharmonic event!” The concert will taked place at the Kirby Center in Wilkes-Barre on Friday, October 5, 7 p.m. State Senator Charles D. Lemmond will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Highlighting this gala event will be an impressive list of celebrity conductors including Dr. Wallace Stettler, retired President of Wyo- ming Seminary; Larry Stetler, President and Chief Adminstrative Officer of Northeastern Bank; Elden Hale, General Manager of WNEP- TV; Richard Ross, President and Chairman of the Board of First Eastern Corp., Elizabeth Reding- ‘Battle of the Batons' set for October 5 ton, Trustee of the University of Scranton and Otto Robinson, Presi- dent of Penn Security Bank. The concert will feature Music Director Hugh Keelan as well as the six celebrity conductors lead- ing the orchestra in a series of orchestral favorites. General admission to the con- cert is $10. A $100 patron ticket includes a dinner and dance immediately following the concert at the Genetti Best Western Hotel. Live music will be provided by Fifth Avenue (a.k.a. Jumper Bones and the Horns from Hell). Women's Club awards scholarships The Harveys Lake Women's Service Club, a member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs recently announced the awarding of academic scholar- ships to three Lake-Lehman High School graduates. A $500 schol- arship was given to Darci Yetter and scholarship bonds of $100 each were awarded to Molly White and Chris Daniels. The Scholarship Program of the Harveys Lake Women's Service Club is an annual award based upon the academic achievements of seniors at Lake-Lehman High School. Chairperson of the Edu- cation Committee who made the award is Dr. Karen Bobeck of Harveys Lake. Lake-Lehman seniors are en- couraged to contact their guid- ance office for more information concerning these annual scholar- ship awards. The Harveys Lake Women's Service Club is open to all women of the Harveys Lake area who are - age 18 or over who have a desire to help serve their community through a variety of volunteer activities.
