Davies, Academic Dean at Wyoming Seminary College Preparatory School, Kingston, announced recently the names of three National Merit semi-final- ists and five commended students. Among the Semi Finalists are Jane Oh, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Dong Oh, Dallas, and Matthew Shea, son of Atty. and Mrs. Charles Shea, III, Dallas. Janelle Kellman, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Ian Kell- man, Shavertown, is listed among the commended students. In the fall of 1989, more than one million students in 19,000 United States secondary schools entered the 1991 merit program by taking the PSAT. Top scorers in every state, representing about one-half of one percent of each state's high school graduating class, are included in the nation- wide semi-finalist pool. Stravinsky, '87, Dallas. Dr. William A. Pearman, acting campus executive officer, was guest speaker at the annual meeting. Phyllis Belk, director of Univer- sity relation and Marketing at the campus welcomed the group and presented awards to outgoing board members. The Campus Society was begun by Post six years ago and was formally organized into an official constituent society of the PennState Alumni Association in 1988. The Society represents the: campus’ 4000 alumni who are members of the Penn State Alumni Association, and assists the cam- pus through a variety of admis- sions and recruiting activities, social events, and fund raising projects. The Board of Directors consists of 23 members and will meet on the second Tuesday of the months November 13, January 8, and March 12. Allalumniare invited to the meetings which are normally held in the board room of the Hayfield House at 6 p.m. The campus Alumni Society is now in the process of planning an Alumni Homecoming that will be held October 27 at the campus. The event is open to all Penn Staters, no matter what campus they attended. “We call it Home- coming because we want all Penn State alums to think of the Wilkes- Barre campus as “home base” in Northeastern Pennsylvania,” said Biono, newly elected president. The Homecoming day will begin at 11 a.m. Families are invited to bring their own lunch, and enter- ing a tailgate-type dish into a taste- testing contest. The Alumni Soci- ety will furnish all beverages and dinner.
