~~ ” A a8 Ei COMMUNITY BE Education Association gives donation The Dallas Education Association (DEA), composed of the teachers, librarians, nurses and guidance counselors of the Dallas School District recently presented a check for $500 to the Back Mountain Memorial Library in recognition of the vital educational role that the public library performs in the community. In addition to the donation, several Association members also contribute their time and service through the various booths and attractions at the upcoming auction. Express yourself by entering the first An- nual Photography Contest spon- sored by the Wyoming Historical and Geological Society (WHGS) and the Wyoming Valley Camera Club. The theme of the competition is “Luzerne County 1990”. In con- junction with the exhibit currently on display at the museum of the WHGS, celebrating “150 Years of Photography in the Wyoming Val- ley,” this competition was designed to' encourage today's Wyoming Valley Photographers to capture our region as the photographers in our exhibit did in the past. The exhibit which will be on display until November focuses on the works of five photographers from the area and features images, of Wilkes-Barre, Pittston, Harveys Lake and many other local towns from the 1870's to the 1940's. A portion of the exhibit explains the development of the photographic process from the Daguerrotype to the Kodak snapshot. “150 Years of Photography in the Wyoming Val- ley” was made possible in part by a grant from the Pennsylvania Coun- cil on the Arts, with additional support from Lyons Studios and Ace Hoffman Studios. All eligible entries to the contest ‘will be exhibited at the museum of the Wyoming Historical and Geo- logical Society from August 25 through October 13, 1990 and at the Luzerne County Folk Festival from October 25 through October 28. Entries must have been taken within the confines of Luzerne County and should show some aspect of life within the area. All photographs - black and white, color, non-siler, etc., are eligible. Prints must be framed and ready to hang. Print size must fall be- tween 8" x 10" and 11" x 14" with identifying labels permanently af- fixed to the back. Entries must be delivered to the museum at 69 S. Franklin St., between July 24 and August 11, 1990. Prizes will be awarded in adult, young adult and youth categories. All entered pho- tographs must be accompanied by a $3.00 entry fee and an official entry form.
