DENMON Staff Writer Lake-Lehman co-coaches Phil Lipski and Tom Williams, after coaching the junior high for sev- eral years, this season have taken over the job of heading the senior high varsity team. Both coaches are enthusiastic about this season's prospects despite the fact that they have a lot of underclassmen on the squad. “We have 30 boys out for this year's program,” said Phil Lipski. “They're a very young team, most of them sophomores and juniors. Some of these kids have had some experience so Tom and I are opti- mistic about the Knights showing this year. “We have seven lettermen re- turning from last season,” Williams said. “Terry Martin, Rich Peiffer, Tony Ramagli, Ray Rosencrance, Mike Guerin, Jason Naugle, and Charles Roper did some wrestling last year.” Lipski said they also have re- turning seniors who will be a nucleus for this year’s team. “We have J.J. Konigus who did a good job last season, Ed Kelly, P.J. Goodwin, Ed Higgins, Chris Smith and Mark Longmore, all seniors, who made just about every meet and we are counting on them for this season. We also have one freshman on the team this year, Charlie Jacoby, who has been making a name for himself in wrestling for junior high last year and in track this year. “We will have a full jayvee team which makes us optimistic and we have set up three scrimmages. We open with Benton at home Decem- ber 13, then wrestle Williamsport at home December16 in exhibition meets,” Lipski concluded. “We are looking for a good sea- son,” Tom Williams added. “Our junior high team did a good job the last few years and we have a lot of those boys on the varsity this sea- son.” Dallas coach Steve Kaschenbach is not as optimistic as the Lake- Lehman coaches. “We have 19 out for wrestling thisyear,” Kaschenbach said. “This is a classic building year for Dal- las. We have five returning from last season, Pat Morris, Wayde Post, Dave Pitcavage, Rich Hoyes and Jamie Janosky. “These five had some experi- ence last season but you could say we have only four and a half since Morris and Hoyes competed with one another prior to every meet last season. They are still compet- ing at the same weight class this year,” Kaschenbach explained. Kaschenbach said four of the boys are out for the first time and he also has nine sophomores on the team. “They are working hard and they are enthusiastic,” Kaschenbach said. “They are anxious to do a good job for the team and fortu- “Valley. West and Coughlin are nately, we have boys at every weight the two teams who will give the rest class from 103 pounds which is of us trouble,” Kaschenbach pre- good.” dicted. “Lake-Lehman should have This is Kaschenbach's second a pretty good squad because they season as head coach and he and have some excellentathletes back.” YMCA holding lifeguarding course for Christmas break his assistant Roy Wall are looking ahead to building a good squad for the future.
